So there's the usual contingent of Heeps and only about 4 Rovers.

One jacked up RRC with a D60 *DRUM BRAKED* rear end running some bling bling 20 inch chrome rims and a slight exo-cage. Couldn't stop to gawk...I was on my way to photograph some trucks for AEV...

Another RRC with a full-on exo-cage and integrated inner cage, fuel cell, pretty stock otherwise.

A white D90 with wheel arch cut-outs and some ghey flames.

A sweet stock 88 hardtop, blue.

A random stock green D90

A few random Discos.

Me. :flipoff2:

Saw hundreds (literally) of very modestly modified heeps going up 15 out of vegas last weekend being driven and flat-towed. Saw one wrangler on fullwidth 60s and 4 buggies being pulled by a semi. That was just Friday, I can't imagine how packed it is. Let's see some pics!

That wasn't one of the Pikes Peak RRC's, was it?

Pike's Peak's trucks are usually pretty distinctive, what with "PIKE'S PEAK ROVERS" stenciled on the side:flipoff2:

(if it wasn't late, I'd attach a pic, but I'm too tired to resize it)

Even funnier, I was standing on the other side of the vehicle with the rooftop tent talking to someone while that guy and his son were climbing around.

Drum brakes = heavy

Anyway, the RRC wasn't a Pikes Peak truck.

I just got home and am decompressing for a moment. I'll put up a gallery of all the pics I took and give a linky.

The 'ghey' truck with the flames was actually Carey Steiner from California. Some of you might remember her from Twist Off fame.

Anyway, the comments about the paint job aside, her truck is really sweet. It's on custom 9-inch axles with some hideously huge outer knuckles that I *hear* came off of a fork-lift. I have pics of her axles to scrutinize.

Some interesting details on the rear cross-member was narrowed and the corner cappings were nicely tapered to the cross-member. Definitely not a hack job.

Rode in a six-seater sand-rail/rock-crawler/desert-comp-truck/thing-a-ma-bob that kicked some serious ass. Am doing a story on it for one of the magz. Had a blast in that thing...the idea is that these 3 guys took an old F150 truck, chopped the body off and turned it into a custom fun-buggy. Did it on a very tiny budget and built it in six days. A bit rough, but VERY fun...possibly the funnest truck I've ridden in in several years.

Hung out with Melanie from 'Team Purple' and shot her rock-buggy. It's very unique with the entire engine that is rear-mounted is actually attatched to the rear A-arm for the suspension. The engine moves in unison with the axle and is very slick. Engine out of a Honda Pilot and should be a very nice comp buggy.

Saw Matt from Rockware and said hi. Met up with the ProComp crew and hung out with them for a few days (Carey made the introductions...I just coat-tailed with 'em).

Um....saw a KICK ASS Unimog camper based on the new style of 'mog. VERY nice. Also saw a sweet Winnebago/Mercedes camper conversion from Europe. Also very nice.

Drove the only RHD Jeep Rubicon CRD (common rail diesel) ever made. Also drove one of the first 'theme vehicle' prototype diesel liberties and hung out with some of the boyz from Daimler-Chrylser. Some nice images of their trucks for sure...maybe for Diesel Power mag. or one of the Primemedia pubs. Dunno yet. Watch for major diesel news from DaimlerChrysler. Lots of trucks and cars will have the diesel engines in them for '08. One of them I was going to photograph but the announcement is very close and they didn't want to have their own media event scooped. Bummer because the truck is VERY cool.

Met one of the guys that's an investor in the 'BFE' play area...formerly known as 'Upper Helldorado'. These three guys bought like 150 acres of prime playground and have basically turned it into a Disneyland for off-roaders. Very fun, very cool, very free (donations accepted). I met Olaf, and he is talking about making some one-piece Rover axles that have a very competitive pricepoint and a LIFETIME breakage guarantee. We'll see how it pans out. He had a set on his Disco1 and he says he's been beating on them hard w/out any probs.

The trade show sucked...always does...but I might have two new clients out of it, so maybe it didn't suck after all. :flipoff2:

Ummmm...lots more, but fingers are getting tired. :D

Follow the linky for pics from the EJS.

Yes, there are a LOT of thumbnails, but they'll load and you'll be able to see the crazy Rangie with the full exo-cage.

Yeah, they all heard about it when it happened. Very embarassing. I'll always be a bit gun-shy from now on.

I notice that the last half of the images aren't loading...be right back.

EDIT: I'm pulling the link until the images have been published. Sorry for those who didn't see 'em yet. :(
