i have a 87 sami with the stock motor it runs good and strong and i was wondering?? since i just put jeep axles under it would the stock motor/trans/transfercase have the power to move it around the trails.. or would i have to get 5-1 gears in the case the jeep axles are built and have arb air lockers i think the gears are 373

You'll have no problems at all trail wise. You may enounter issues of caughing or stalling with that stock card at extreme (or less extreme) angles, but she'll put around the trails ok. Remember whatever tcase you choose will effect your 1to1 high range as well. So, the lower you go in 4Lo, the more effect of lowering (your effective or percieved) gear ratio will be. Since your ring and pininons are so high, you could get a 6.4 or 8.0 tcase and ti will effectively lower your percieved ring and pinons to a more appropriate ratio. IMO the ultra low tcase is the biggest aid, and first thing one should do to begin building their rig. then lockers. Just my .02 cents.

you will want some t-case gears. 5.14:1 or 6:1's should do fine.
