Total newb Sammy owner here...sold my YJ and picked up an '88 for cheap. After much research, I want to do the following:
- Trailtough YJ spoa w/ missing link front
- Spidertrax Quarter Elliptic rear
- Stock axles and R&P w/ EZ lockers or lock-rites
- Petroworks low range transfer case
- 32x11.50 tires on 15x8 wheels
Help me out here, guys. Will this do the job w/ my carb'ed stock 1.3? I spend the majority of my free time pondering ways to make this zuk trailworthy, but I can't break the bank. I still have my YJ stock springs from waaaaaaay back, hoped one day to use them on a Sammy. Thanks!

I ran a similiar setup a couple years back except I had a S/R up front and YJ's out back. It was a very capable rig.

Sounds like it will work well. imo if you want to save some cash, stock yjs with the correct length shocks and shock mounts work quite well and it is cheap.

Can you elaborate please. Is this instead of missing links? I have heard good and bad about m/l's. I am thinking of doing something along the same lines and want to do it right the first time, Baked

I think he is refering to using YJs all around. Cheap and easy, especially if you have them already.

In my humble opinion........with that size tire the high dollar bling bling q elliptical rear suspension is over kill. The yj's flat rock. They flex like mad and are simple and cheap. Traction bar installed......done. Use money saved on suspension for fj60 powersteering box and mini truck pump. Wheel it and have a ball untill you break the stock axles then upgrade to toy mini truck axles.....

I would go 33'' tires. Living here by Spidertrax I can say their 1/4 eliptic is sweet and at about $800 is pretty inexpensive considering what you end up with. I currently have yj's with missing links from TT and they are great but the 1/4 elliptic is definately on the list.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe that's the ticket. Trail tough has been recommended to me for the spoa w/ YJ's front and rear. I want to throw some lockrites in the lockers, is this a waste of money? With 6.5" of lift, I'm thinking 33's are the size I'll go after.

I would leave the front open and lock the rear. I had an LS up front and blew 2 birfs and an inner shaft in the first couple of runs with 34's.
With the rear locked and the front open, you will still go most anywhere you want to.
Save the money of locking the front towards power steering and axle upgrades later down the road.

Thanks... how about the r&p in the axles? I assume leave those stock as well and get a low range xfer case? I was thinking perhaps petroworks for that.

That's the cheaper route to go. Then later down the like if you swap out the axles you haven't sunk money into the stock ones. The tcase gears will still be used even after the axle swap.
I'm one of the few here who still have zuk axles in mine. Going back I would have rather not put any money into them and gone to toys, but it's too late now. I've got a Trail Tough hybrid rear end with a sidekick 3rd with a mini-spool in the rear. Up front I've got sidekick gears in an open 3rd. Running 34's and with the front open I haven't had any more breakage problems.

Toy axles, IFS p/s, 33's, yj's, 6/1 , and lockers. You will be amazed with kind of stuff you can get in too.

walked past a yj with D44 and 40 ground hawgs, stretched wheel base, v8 auto blah blah blah with my 1.3, 6.5 to 1, 35's and 4inch yj TT kit:shaking:
i will coil the back of mine to stretch it and conquer some wheel hop issues but you're good to go.........
