: Rubithon Ride Wanted
ginericfj80 04-10-2002, 08:21 AM I'm wanting to attend the Rubithon this year. Unfortunately, I don't have a Cruiser that is ready for it. I also don't want to sacrifice my 60 for a day or two of wheeling. I can get a fairly inexpensive flight from Boise, Idaho to Reno, Nevada. I was wondering if there was someone who would be headed that way through Reno and have an extra seat, I'd even be happy in the backseat of a wagon. I'd have a small backpack. Only a couple of clothes, an expedition hammock, sleeping bag, and some camera equipment.
Later and Thanks!

Eric,
If I had a Cruiser ready, the seat would open for you, as you opened yours for Moab for me on the 3rd!!:smokin:
Just so you know, I'll have my 8mm and my digital camera on the run in Moab!! Also, a very slight chance I'll have a cam set up that I've been planning for my ski helmet as well. We'd be able to mount it anywhere!:smokin:
PS - I am looking at a 60 right now, and I may be a 60 owner by CM02. If that works out AND I can get to Rubithon (CinC has final say!!) the right seat will be yours!! I'll keep you posted!
b_sulli@yahoo.com 04-15-2002, 03:48 PM Eric,
i'll have a couple spare seats in the 45... but I am going in on Monday. And I'm not going through Nevada. My personal suggestion... and you'll think I am nuts... but drive the 60 down, park it at Tahoe, and hoof it. You will see way more action being on foot. The trail is quite short. And you will have a great vantage point. You can also hop from rig to rig as lots of people will have open spaces. I have friends who have done this before... and had a great time. Maybe even throw some racks on a mtn bike and do it that way.

ginericfj80 04-15-2002, 05:44 PM I've been debating the hoofing thing. I think it would be a good experience. I could probably get lots of photos which is what I want to do. I wish we still had a little rice burner to drive down there. The old 60 just isn't really good at passing the pumps. Flying is cheap. Reno to Boise roundtrips can be had for $79. That is cheaper than I could drive. I could bring my bike, but that would require getting in shape : ) Days aren't a problem for me, I'm off of work most of the month of June. This trip has to be cheap because I'm already doing Cruise Moab and then my wife and I are taking a trip to Canada to steal some more diesel Cruisers (this is an inside joke, but the Canadians are probably reading). My wife is starting to get a little upset with all of the Cruiser vacations. 5 trips to Moab in 2 years. My other dilemma is our club has a cool camping trip planned for that weekend now. I could stay at home and actually drive. But the Rubithon keeps calling my name.
b_sulli@yahoo.com 04-15-2002, 06:07 PM Hmmmm, you may have better luck if you can fly into Sac. Or even Oak-town/SF/San Jose.
It just seems most people doing Rubithon come from that direction.
How cheap is a flight? Its 468 miles from Boise to Tahoe City. That's about 60 bucks in gas. Each way, assuming 10mpg. Yeah, I guess that's a bit more then flying.
But not by much. Of course you still have to eat. And drink. And develope film.
Man, this is an expensive sport just to watch.

helocat 06-17-2006, 02:21 PM That’s funny, I read Sean’s replay post (second post above) and thought….wait Sean road with Eric at CM02 I thought…. Then looked at the date. Who. Talk about digging up the dead!
Last I heard Eric (Generic80) will be there in his 80 this year. The only thing he was worried about was the fuel prices.

Valid concern!
ginericfj80 06-17-2006, 07:46 PM Well, I'm out again. I just got home from a 4300+ mile roadtrip. I somehow managed to leave my convertor on and fried my wiring harness. Logistics were sucking anyway. I was going to have to bring my dogs and 3 year old by myself. Fuel Prices weren't so much the problem as much as employment. 3 weeks ago my wife lost her job. So we are down to one income. Although, it appears things might be looking up she was accepted to two juried art shows. So if she sells some art we'd be OK for awhile. Who knows what is going to happen. On this road trip from hell we stopped and looked for some jobs. I'm going to try to make it to the Rubicon yet this summer if at all possible. Unfortunately it won't be on the Rubithon.
