After splitting the kingpin with heat and the nut and bolt trick I came up with this :flipoff2:

With all the heat it walked right out :)

The other side was better. My hex is bigger than BillaVistas :cool2:

Reading this thread makes me want to buy a rebuilt 60 for the front of my YJ when the time comes instead of a junkyard one.

There is definitely tons of crap you have to go through but I'm glad I will have the knowledge of every part I used along with knowing it will all be new. So there is a trade off for me.

I split my kingpin w/ the giant allen wrench. About a week earlier, I was told by WFO that they grind flat sides into the kingpin and use a pipe wrench w/ a six foot bar. Worked like MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks. No heat either!!!
Anyone want to buy a big allen wrench?

btw its easier to get out when the pig is still in the vehicle ... saves chasing it around the garage.:D

I'm still working on mine new 35 spline stubs, all new seals, bearings, rotors, calipers, still need hubs or flanges ... haven't decided on that yet.

Might be easier to buy a new one ... but anyone with a credit card can do that!! And in the end what do you know??? Besides I found mine for $200 Canadian.

Off to the shop!!

Yup.... stuff like this has me considering building one from scratch instead of buying a junkyard HP60 and rebuilding it. Sure is fun to see what people do when the "right tool" won't do the job though :D

When I first tried to remove the king pins on 79 hp60, I had all my weight on a 7/8" allen wrench and 6' cheater bar and still wouldn't budge. Just for the hell of it, I gave it a go like I was tightening it up. It made a little pop noise, and then was able to unscrew it without using any heat. Worked the same on both sides. It's worth a try.

Chained to a forklift and A LOT of heat, worked for my buddies axle. If spending six grand on a front axle sounds better than pulling kingpins from a scrapyard housing, you need to spend some money with me!

I've been using that trick for years on stuck hardware :smokin:
