OK, here's the scoop. The hole deal started with my oil pressure gauge. It started reading low while cruising down the road. I changed the oil and installed a new oil pressure sending unit. Started her up and still was reading low. I figured maybe the gauge lost ground. Ground is OK. Thought, OK I'll put in a new gauge from one of my spare gauge clusters. Still reading low and now........all my gauges are fawked up!!!!!!! Temp is pinned on high, fuel is full and oil is still low.........
I don't get it...... What the hell happened? Any Ideas??????

Maybe the oil pumpl is fine and you have legit oil pressure problems - oil pump is going maybe?
Just a guess. If it is, an oil pump sure is an easier job than a whole new 2F. Trust me, I know!!;)
Good luck!

Does the cluster have the round black plug with a dozen or so wires in it? Or is it the early style with individual wires for each gauge? If it has the plug, try replacing the gas gauge with a spare one from another cluster. The gas gauge acts as the voltage regulator and provides 5V to the oil pressure gauge and the temp gauge. Sounds wierd but worked to correct my friends "faulty" temp gauge.

Hey BigRedfj40, I am having a similar problem. I have a '72 fj40. Recently started it and everything was normal, then I watched the oil pressure slowly drop to zero along with the temp gauge going to completely high and I know the thermostadt had not opened yet and the fuel guage was 1/2 full went to empty. Along with this the heater fans don't work. I can fool with it and check things out and come up empty. I will then go out there a few days later and things are normal for a few minutes and then can watch the gauges going the wrong direction. I usually takes 4 to 5 seconds for the gauges to move over. Very strange. I would think a short would just zap the gauges to where they are but then I am a electrical (clinton/gore) or moron. I feel your pain.

I have something similar as well, but I think I know what might be going on (slightly).
I was driving back from a friend's house, came around a corner (going 5mph), did a broadie, and slid into the ditch backwards. when I slammed my foot on the clutch, I caught some of the wires near the fuse panel ('76 FJ40, BTW). Didn't notice anythign until I'd turned the rig off. When I turned it back on, nothing that was connected to the ignition worked, including the starter. I turned the radio on, and just messed with wires until a lot of noise told me it got power. A couple times since then, the wires have jiggled loose. Being that I live in Alaska and it is still winter, and that I don't have an indoor place to work on it, I've just messed with them until they've worked. However, the last time it happend, I accidently disconnected the fuel, oil, and temp gauges, as well as the blower motor. So, at least in my case, the problem lies in the wiring near the panel.
