In theory it should work... a limited slip differential has some mechanism for limiting the difference in wheel speed on either wheel. Makes no difference whether you're running forward or backwards. Whether the carriers are the same in the front and rear of a 70 series, you would know that better than me.

thanks...that makes sense.....the diff will fit the casing ok,just have to alter the steering a little as the std front diff is high pinion with the track rod running under the pinion.....can you get a lockright for the high pinion front diff???just a thought?

Hold the phone... if your front is high pinion and your rear is not- you cannot just slip a rear center section into the front housing without screwing up your front driveshaft angle, possibly steering tie rod, probably skid plate clearance, and thats assuming the bolt patterns are alike on the center sections.
If you really want a limited slip in the front, just keep your gears and do a lunchbox type locker, Quick-Lok, Aussie Locker, etc. You do have lockout hubs on the front axle, don't you? I'm thinking you should find a competent 4x4 shop near you and pick their brains for about 10 minutes and save yourself weeks of headache. Just my $.02. Luke
