: Is this a good idea?
If you end up in a situation like this:

(I-70 near Avon Colorado, heading back east)
Is this the rigtht choice?

What about this?

or maybe this?

This is us pulling into Silverthorne (45 miles away):
http://www.trailseeker.com/4x4/mods/f350/gj134.jpg
Interesting drive, the tow company dispatcher told us they could only pull the truck, so we unhooked and unloaded. The driver said he could pull it all, we questioned it but he was right. Of course it was 18-25 mph the whole way up Vail pass, and the hill down into Silverthorne was interesting. We probably gross around 22-23k like that,(not counting the wrecker) (no doors, camping gear, g/fs or wives and their luggage)
30 000 mile F-350 6.0 PSD/TF 4.10s. Guessing it was the fuel injection control module. Truck died at about 65 mph, and would not restart, no fuel getting to the engine mounted fuel filter.
Fortunately only 80 miles from Silverthorne home. Hopefully they will get the truck fixed soon.

lttlbddy 04-17-2006, 09:56 AM Try a Dodge CTD next:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Corbin 04-17-2006, 10:27 AM Thanks lttlbddy! :flipoff2: It is going to be hard to buy another Ford at this point so probably that or a duramax. Now that Dodge has a backseat that could certainly be a consideration. Too bad they include so much of the nasty wood trim in it for this year. The 350 sure pulls great when it runs though :D
Independent4x 04-17-2006, 10:53 AM well....that sucks corbin and aaron..................i have had a few little PSD issed with my 97, rnning one minute then just shut off. (1st was the CPS, then the fuel pre-heater grounded on the fuel bowl and blew the main fuse.......both simple to fix, just a PITA and inconvenient  )
F'it corbin i say just get one of those int'l's that tugged your junk to silverton.
CAT power...............Problem solved :flipoff2:
randii 04-17-2006, 11:14 AM When I saw the second picture:

...I felt sure the next frame was going to be that pig of a trailer hooked up to the Dodge with the Amigo parked backwards at the very tail end of the trailer to minimize tongue-weight.
I'm glad you elected a different strategy!
g/fs or wives and their luggage)
These plural forms could get you in trouble, unless you are much closer than I thought... or are planning full-time residence in Utah.
I hope the fix is easier than last time...

Nope - Anna and I were keeping her company down in HR while all of this was going on...

m016324 04-17-2006, 12:28 PM hope you have AAA RV plus. I've been in a couple of similar situations and depending on the driver sometimes they'll tow everything and sometimes they want a separate wrecker sent for the trailer. Saved myself a ton of money last year by having AAA. Glad you got home

adrianspeeder 04-17-2006, 12:30 PM Interesting. No one in the 350 to run the trailer brakes? How hard was it to hook up the trailer while on the wrecker?
7.3L: Never leave home without it...
randii 04-17-2006, 12:59 PM At least they sent out a Ferd to tow you home.
Dare I ask what was under the hood of the tow truck?

Interesting. No one in the 350 to run the trailer brakes? How hard was it to hook up the trailer while on the wrecker?
7.3L: Never make it home with it...
Answers:
1) Nope, he did have an electronic driveline brake. .
2) Easy. We just got him sraight in line then he used the hydraulic boom to finish it up
3) The 7.3 left us stranded about 15 miles down the road, and once in Illinois. I don't think that would be an upgrade. The cool thing with the 7.3 is both times it blew up, there was massive amounts of smoke and oil and parts of the engine on the highway. The 6.0 just coasted to a stop with out the drama. (fixed it for ya) :)
Randii, funny thing, when the wrecker pulled up the trailer (its not so heavy) :flipoff2: was hooked to the Dodge, with the biggest drop hitch Wally World has, and we were contemplating how to reduce the tongue weight :flipoff2: I figured I had a dana 70, and 5.13s, should pull fine, and it was lighter then pulling 'Zuzoos cross Wyoming and Colorado :grinpimp:
Wish I had of grabbed a picture.
The wrecker motor may have been a DT466, it was a 6 spd eaton tranny, so certainly was no monster ahead of it. It wasn't going to win any land speed contests but it made it.
Maybe an '05 Bigtoyfreak CTD conversion? :smokin:

Shagnaz2 04-21-2006, 04:47 AM Is that a 6L power stroke. A friends crapped out and they replaced the computer. Then, they had to replace to oil pump.

Yes, its an 05, thats the only diesel available. ('03 was available with both 7.3s and 6.0s). In my opinion they both suck for reliability but the 6.0 is certainly faster. A couple of our districts at work won't accept F-350s any more due to the 6.0 problems.
I believe it was an o-ring in the HP oil pump (which is used to fire the injectors).
Try a Dodge CTD next:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Don't you drive a Chevy? And a Ford? and an Isuzu?
lttlbddy 04-21-2006, 07:09 PM Yes, yes, yes but if I were to buy a Diesel . . .
