Saw some on sportsmansguide.com a week ago. And by that, I mean that when I went to place an order, I didn't get the notice of any backorders. And this was last week, so I don't know if they have any on hand still or not. edit... guess they're out again
One of the guys I go shooting with got in several cases two weeks ago, after waiting about 2 months for it. He got several cases from several different vendors, and it all showed up at the same time, so it's definitely getting shipped once the vendors get it.

Theres a hole in the wall gunstore here that specializes in military weapons. Its where I get my 7.5x55 swiss stuff. I'll give them a call tomorrow. I have no idea what brand/price would be.
What would be most common brands/prices? I don't know anything about russian ammo.

Privi Partisan is former Yugo army ammo
Sellier and Beloit make modern 7.62 as does American Eagle.
Might I make a suggestion??????? Don't use old crappy corrosive ammo from some eastern bloc dump, 'cause even though your barrel may be chromed, the other steel components of your firing mechanism are not, hence they will slow rot before your peepers. Secondly, if I can get this stuff in my local gunshop north of Toronto, you should be able to get it that much easier in the land of the free, Nu?

Anyone who wants to pay the cost of S&B 7.62 for plinking in an AK is better off than I am...
I'm not too worried about steel-cased stuff in an AK. If it wears out, I'll just rebuild the receiver. Or just build another one, it's not like it's difficult or anything :flipoff2:
The biggest problem right now is that the "scare" has people buying up as much as they possibly can, taking away from those of us who only buy 1000 at a time. For instance, the guy I mentioned earlier received 13,000 rounds of Wolf HP--some of which he has sold among our group of regular shooters.

I bought some stuff from the guy on the the site above with all the incendiary and tracer rounds . I called and bought from him direct instead of bidding on it and got a little better deal , anyway back to the point . That was about a month go and he said he was getting some 7.62X39 ammo in that week , I don't recall price or the brand , I think it might have been bear? I have been seeing a little here and there but, it closer to $200 for a 1000 rounds instead $100 for 1000.
I still got a few rounds, so I think I'll keep waiting on my back orders for awhile longer .
Check with the guy above, his info is....

I bought 500 rounds from Academy sporting goods a couple weeks ago for $2.80 a box or so. I had to use some finesse in talking with the employee to get them to transfer some in from another store because some moron had gone in a day earlier and bought out their entire stock of 3000+ rounds. I didn't think the guy would call be back but he did a week later. :)
Do you have an Academy near you? They sell Monarch/Barnaul 7.62. Their prices are about to go up 20% again so get it while you can.

According to the guy I spoke with, the primary reason for this "shortage" is consumer demands. They have been receiving fairly consistent shipments of ammunition for quite some time. However, this notion that there is a shortage has caused persons who would typically purchase 500-1000rds every year+, to now buy 2-4K at a time. I think there is more too it than that, but that is a reasonable, possibly partial, explanation. I think an "outside" demand can be attributed to the delays as well.
Also, he said that vendors are taking advantage of the situation by drastically increasing their profit margins, IMO more so than is commensurate with demand. Granted, this ammo is worth what the customer is willing to pay; yet it only aggravates everyone's frustration levels.
Again, he relayed the fact that commodity (especially steel, copper, and brass) prices are increasing. An example was given. Apparently, Wal Mart has increased their pricing on most all of their stocks of ammunition. Likewise, transportation costs have steadily increased at every level...and neither Wolf, nor any other profitable business is going to take that hit.

Likewise, this is steel cased ammo as well...
If you want to initially purchase brass cased ammo or everything separate, go for it.
These aren't bolt action guns. So, one can either police up their brass empties from the field/hard surface or use an ammo bag to catch them... I don't see most of us, especially Gil piping hot fire out the end of his weapon with a cute net affixed to the reciever.

Popping berdans taint all that difficult, all my military 7mm stuff was primed that way. They make a "can opener" for them and one can also do it with water pressure. Pull the anvil out of conventional primers (or buy berdan primers) and yer off.
Iffen ye dont like dealing with that they sell conventionally primeable brass (BTDT)... ;)
