not hard at all just take out factory rivets and bolt new hangers on, i think ORU was the brand. you might have to move your rear axle forward 1" depending on lift or you can just cut the fender

you can modify your existing hangars. you run your existing springs, and you get about 4" of lift. ORD, DIY4x, SKY, and others make one for you if you wanted to buy one. here is a tech article explaning how to do it. http://coloradok5.com/shackleflip.shtml

Look at the CK5 write up. It is simple to do. I used the ORD kit www.offroaddesign.com and the DIY www.diy4x.com kit looks great.

Yea it is a simple thing to do.
The most time consuming portion is getting the stock hangers off, sometimes the rivits dont like to come off, I broke an air hammer doing mine but other than that it is simple. I have pictures and a write up if your interested in seeing it but the ck5 write up is probably better than mine, I have never read it but I have to assume it is.

I have installed 4 ORD kits and would recommend their products. Their kits give either 2.5 or 4" of lift depending upon which kit you order. You do use your stock springs. The kit is not technical, but not easy. Getting the rivets off, especially on the drivers-side, can be a bear and you have to drop the gas tank to install the drop brackets.

I would rcommend a cutoff disk to cut trenches into the tops of the rivet heads. Then you can use an air hammer with a sharp knife to cut the heads off. Again, because of the spare tire well, the driver side has less room to work and is more difficult. You need to egg out the holes in the frame to accept the 7/16 bolts provided in the kit. Best to use a die-grinder for this.

On my 1990 Suburban with a 14FF, the wheel sits perfectly in the well and 35's look nice with a 4" lift.

PM me with any other quesitons you might have.

I tried the air hammer and gave up. i used a grinder to just grind the heads off and hammered the rivets out.

i vote for torch. it took less than a few minutes total on my blazer with a torch. and if you are doing the homebrew method, you dont even need to take the brackets off the frame. i went with DIY's kit cause it gets rid of sucky stock style shackles.

i took the front hanger off of a 3/4 ton and mounted it on on the rear with some thick angle iron to beef it up on the bottom of the frame. a little time consuming but really strong.

Im using offroaddesign.com shackle flip hanger and there heavy duty shackles and the hardest thing for me was re hanging a full damn gas tank...I have 8'' springs + the 4'' lift from the hangers and my axle is still perfect in the middle and no problems at all..I was running a 42'' tire and never rubbed.......

no the ORD is for the back spring only (by the way I think they are better than DIY, they are powder coated and have one hell of a customer service, the ORD comes with larger bolts than the DIY too).
Most people use 52" springs from a Blazer in the front to get the 4" of lift, myself, I had 6" lift springs so I used them along with 2" blocks in the back to level out the height.
I think that is what you were asking right??

does powder coating make the shackle stronger? and i dont think it is even possible to have better customer service than kurt at DIY, period. so im assuming you has to drill out the holes for larger bolts with the ORD setup? so in theory, you are using things that are bigger than the factory thought was necassary? perhaps, i dont have the ORD one so i dont know, but the DIY one is HELLA strong.

and people, why does eveybody think that 52" springs only come from blazers? they came in ALL 1/2 tons 2WD and 4WD, and some 3/4 tons, 73-87 or possible later.

i'm sorry, but in my opinion, that is just retarded. you're already knocking off the stock hanger, just spend the 20 bucks to get some junk yard hangers and bolt them on for the lift you want.

the reason i didnt do that is because i didnt want that rear shackle. to me that is what it all came down to. i have seen them brake and do not want to run them.

i guess I'm confused now. you recommended that people cut out the stock hanger and flip the stock shackle. and you think that is less likely to break than a stock spring hanger bolted to the frame?

this is certainly cheaper but cheaper is not always better.

You look at his set up and that is a pic of my ORD kit, which do you think is better?

You put enough shear force on his and it will either break, tear, or both.
I am sorry but that set up he has in his pic is junk.

I used the 4" ORD shackle flip with home made 7.5" shackles with 63" springs and I got about 4-5" of lift. I did get rid of them because I inboarded my springs but even with the stock springs and shackles, you get a better ride and better flex.

i never recomended cutting the factory bracket. if you read i said i went with the DIY4x setup for the shackles. sorry for the big pic, but this is my setup.
