The 89-early 91s had 727s. Late 91-93 had 518s.

From what I've read the manual from those years has as many problems as the auto. My 93 Auto seems to be in fine shape at 155K. I tow 6K with it a dozen or so times a year.
The truck your looking at is identical to mine except mines black/silver.

They are ok, mostly electrical problems, but there are ways to get around most of those problems. These trucks don't have lockup converters either, so they are a bit sloppy. The fact is none of the big 3 have a trans that lives very well behind a diesel. If you like the truck, and think it's a good deal, buy it. It will probably treat you well. If you do buy it, get on one of the dodge diesel websites and you will have all the info you need to keep it going.

went and drove it today.. loved the truck, hated the dealer.. first he said 4500, then 5500, then 5k..mind you any of those are fair prices, but he couldn't decide which one...then when my GF wanted to drive he said that he didn't think she could handle a vehicle that large...kinda set me off, considering she can drive just about anything with wheels...gonna keep looking for a nice first gen CTD...
