*Power is slated to be a built 392, TF-727, Klune-V crawler box, and a NP-205 transfer case combination. The running gear at this time is slated to be a 5.89 Detroit locker equipped Dana 70 rear end, that will have the ends loped off and Dana 60 front steering outers welded on. The front will be a 5.89 OX Locker equipped Dana 60 thats narrowed.
The suspension will be a custom setup using various different components, both used and fabricated. The rear flex will be attained by a 1/4 elliptical rear setup. The front is planned to be a coil spring setup with a 4 link to hold it all in place. The frame will be custom tube. Steering all this will be a full independent Hydro setup. In other words the rear will be controlled via a joystick mounted in the cab separate of what the front is doing.
The tires needed for the use intended by this stout rig will be 39.5-18-16.5 TSL Boggers mounted on Hummer Beadlocks. The brakes will be 4 wheel disks. The seating will be provided by Corbeau in their Targa RS line.
Now the One of a kind modifications. The tub will be narrowed 4-6" as well as the rear 4 foot bed being cut down to 2-2.5 feet. The tailgate will be retained and moved up. The quarters will be opened up with no back side. The front will consist of some tube bent to look like a fender with a smidgen of fender left.. The external skin will be removable Diamond Plate Aluminum of the 1/8" and 1/16" thickness.
So what do ya all think? Ideas, thoughts, brainstorms?

The Fleckster 04-10-2002, 05:29 PM Twaldher,
It really was kinda nessassary. Ya see i started with plans to do project Going Postal to the Postal Scout 800 right behind it in the pics, and when i got the postal from Boise it was way to clean and original to butcher up, plus i would rather see one of thoes returned to service duty. So i began to look for another canidate. Well i had just sold the front fenders, doors, hood, grill, top, both gas tanks, and some other parts off the 62 Scout 80. The answer was in front of me. Why not use it since its already striped:D
So i moved it over into the stall its in now. Well then came a call for a guy restoring a 63 who wanted the same axles. I sold the power loked 30 rear and the Dana 27 to him. So its kinda not been my choice to start with the body. It just happened in the normal corse of business.
Now as for the parts i have been whoring them for over 3 years with some kind of ass kickin Scout in mind. I have 3 dana 60Fs, 2 dana 70s, 1 wide ratio T-19, 1 closed T-19, Dana 300s, a few 392s, different gear sets, and a pile of harder core wheelin parts stashed about. Now I got the hummer rims on the way, the cryoed 5.89 gears in line, and a grand scheme in the makings.
Sorry for being so short as to why i started on the body first but ya know i am a busy man:cool:
BTW any one got any free time to pass my way. I could use say about 4 months of off time to make this rig a Fawkin sheet (Adam Sandlers "The Bafoon" badass rig.

The Fleckster 04-10-2002, 08:04 PM Nawww Not biten by the bug, just been dreaming about opening a #10 can to let folks know Scouts Rule.
Hey 9-volt, may want to look at the last pic on the post and notice the bumper has been removed, sold it to some sucker with a picture of an ugly dog for an Avatar...and a name like the battery powering your heated seat cushion...oh wait did you buy it :flipoff2: :D
Seriously one concer/thought is if i use the hummer rims without recentering them on 60 dually spacers then the brakes and stuff will hang in. It may be much more work making the frame and quarter elip stuff not interfear with it on the rear and front coil stuff.....Any body got any thoughts on this?

Next time, I'll remember not to lift. :D

(Y'know, this probably did belong in ChitChat, John..)
The Fleckster 04-23-2002, 01:49 AM Ahh what brain storming will do.
I was at the local shop of Dirk ?? who does the importing of the Unimogs. Was able to get a tour and talk for 2 hours with the shop guys. Real nice bunch of guys.
Well a new idea has formulated.
Rather than butcher Dana 60 fronts for X why not just take a rear 60 (tera diff would be cool) lop off the ends and weld on a machined flange adapter to bolt on Unimog Portal gear boxes? It looks easy. The hardest thing should be making a custom axle for it, 35-40 spline one side and I think like 6-8 coarse 1.71" spline the other side. That should not be to tough. Then add a disk brake kit to allow Dana 60 disk brakes and bolt up of 6.5x8 pattern. Wolla the hummer rims fit and I have portal axles...6" more ground clearance under pumpkin.:) With 39.5s to 42 I will have between 17 and 19 inches of ground clearance. Bammmmm:cool: .....Instant ass kickin running gear. :cool2:
Should be able to sell the 2-3 Dana 60 fronts I have here to finance the mog axles easy enough.
Why you ask do I not run the mog axles as is?? I think they will be too wide...but I will have to check. The biggest thing I lose is the flat bottum pumpkin, and the cable lockers. The main reason not to run the mog centers is the 3.54 gears and the 18 inch or so long snout that sticks out. It kills the length of the driveline.
So here would be the gears I should have available with the current plan.
I get 2.3(727) Klune 4.0 then(np-205) 2.0 then 3.54 (Unimog
diff) then 2.13 portal axle gears= 139 to 1 with the Unimog axles, but the since the width may need changed I like the below solution better
With the custom hybrid axle I get this
2.3(727) Klune 4.0 then(np-205) 2.0 then 5.88 (Shaved Dana axles) then 2.13 portal axle gears=
57.6 to 1 with all but the klune engaged in low
115 to 1 with all except the NP-205 engaged in low
230 to 1 all together with everything in the Lowest range
That seems like a nice set of options hun.:roxy:
So any thoughts on this, and dont say shut up and do it, It takes planning and more planning to do something of this scale.
:skull: Fleckster is on a mission:skull:
H8monday 04-23-2002, 05:30 AM How about you spend a couple of hours at Marvin The Martians shop discussing quantum physics, then get back to us with your plans to use "anti gravity, levitation axles". Now that would be sweet:rolleyes:
It seems very plausible, since the technology will be here, by the time you ever actually quit talkin about it and put a welder to it.:flipoff2:
elf_cruiser 04-23-2002, 05:33 AM Sounds like a cool wish-list, but fitting portals under anything but a tube chassis is gonna be difficult. You may want to consider sectioning the frame rails, to allow the axle to travel up some. Unless you want 12" of lift on that thing...
twistedmetal 04-23-2002, 09:46 AM Isn't naming your truck a bit of an 80's hillbilly thing? No one cares what the hell you named it. What, are we supposed to call you and say "Hey, are you and Big Bertha goin' wheelin this weekend?" Geez. Just put the wrenches to it and leave the vinyl windsheild stickers alone.
Albino Man 04-23-2002, 10:57 PM Even if you do all that crap to it that you say yer gunna do,
when it's all said and done......it's still a Scout!
The Fleckster 04-24-2002, 03:44 AM Yep when its all said and done It still is a Scout. God i like the sound of that. Man that made me smile. Scout owners will know what i am talking about.
Happy Trails Clones...I can hear it now "gee dad why does that rig over there look just like ours and that guys over there. They all seem the same......
HighToy 04-24-2002, 10:12 AM John,
Sounds like a great idea and I hope it works out for you and hope to see the rig at one of our CalRocs competitions.
Brimy,
Before calling someone a newbie you need to check registration dates and member numbers. Sitting at 400 posts you're not much more than a newbie yourself. Just something for you to think about.

Exactly My Man, Ex-fuckin-xactly. Chop the hell out of it, and still have the best points of the best factory 4x4 built in the US of A.
:usa: :usa:
Albino Man 04-24-2002, 09:21 PM WHOA!!! Man you scouties are easy to 'rile up:mad3:, too easy!
The Fleckster 04-28-2002, 03:37 AM Okay, It was brought up that factory Mog center sections rotate backwards so if i stuff a Dana in there it will go in reverse.
I called Dirk (Unimog Wherehaus) and indeed the UniMog axle does spin backwards, the the portal reverses the rotation so it drives you forward in forward gears. :(
I was at Rick W's place today (got my Hummer rims :D ...Thanks Rick  Scott thinks its no problem to stuff the 39.5-18.50-16.5s on the 9" Hummer Rims so I am gonna try it first then I will widen them if nessassary) and I think we have it solved. Take a regular low pinion Dana 60 and flip it upside down and add a slinger to the pinion. Overfill somewhat with oil and call it good. With it being for trail and competition the low speed will not overheat the pinion bearings. Since I will be rockin and rolling up and down the bearings will get plenty of oil on them for the slow speeds. Now in a high speed application the oiling would be an issue. I could also pack the bearing with grease like a wheel bearing and it would be fine.
Problem solved. Anyone see any real problem to this approach?
One cool benifit I will recieve is a fliped regular low pinion Dana 70 and Dana 60 will end up being a higher pinion than even a High pinion Ford front end:D:D:D. Better on the driveline angles.
Now all I gotta do is come up with the $1400 plus shipping for portal axle gearboxes from a 404, or I could go a bit bigger with 416 mog portals and get it locally....Anyone want to Buy a dana 60...hmmm will have to edit my For sale add to add these fronts.

The Fleckster 04-29-2002, 02:13 PM Why cant we all just get along(in my best Rodney King Voice):)
Hey so anyone see anything wrong with the fliped axle mentioned above or??
Thoughts concerns or you like the idea. Just want a few more opinions from people who know shit.
