There's not much. You can go to Whiskeytown. The trail up to Shasta Bally might be open now, not sure, but its a nice view. Or you can head over to Shasta Dam area and there is a little <-- (very little) OHV area there. Other than private land I'm not sure where else you can go. Some of the places we used to play around at are off limits now. :(

The road over the dam is still closed, and has been since september. The places i know arent very challenging, so im not much help.

Tamarack lake has trails from mild - boring to pretty wild on the way in, depending on direction you take.

Look up Dale Ball, he was a president of black sheep 4x4 club up there a couple years back, and has an EB that he beats the hell out of. Tell him Mike Foley told you to contact him and he will have lots of dumb stuff to tell you about me. He should be listed in the phone book.

I am not sure who the pres of back sheep is now, but there's a guy who posts here under the S/N "the bonecollector" named shad who was affiliated with the club.

Unfortunately I never owned a decent 4x4 when I lived there, so I never got any wheeling in, but there are places to go within an hour of town.

Theres plenty of old logging roads and fire rods up and around there.. I think you can get ahold of the Lost Cost 4x4 club too but I think there more on the eureka side.

The back side of whiskey town lake there are a few trails. One that I remember was pretty fun- couldn't climb it without locker. There are some trails out at Shasta Dam if the snow is cleared- probably not yet.

Wiskey town is pretty much off limits now due the the nazi park rangers. I would avoid it if at all possible. You can still get behind shasta damn to the OHV area by heading west on 299 toward Weaverville and taking Keswick Dam road to the right. When you get to a gate, turn around cause you have gone too far and take the first road to your left (away from the creek). When you get to the top of the ridge hang a left and follow the road up the ridge (North). This is where the Black Sheep starts their annual 4x4 run, but avoids Tram Line which is the hardest part of the run. There is also some nice mild wheeling in the french gulch area which is just west of Redding out on 299W. If you want snow, head east towards Susanville on HWY 44 or head north to Mt. Shasta. I might be able to show you around a bit too if your going to be up here during the weekend.

it will actually be a couple months so I don't think there will be any snow, whiskey town is close - I'd be happy with a little ol fire-road ;)

Thanks for the invite, it will the week of June 10th that I will be in Redding - hoping to drive my truck. Longest trip it has had is to Hazel which is not far from me at all. Waiting on a set of wheels I bought from the classifieds to get it off of its jackstands.

If I screw it up which I dont mind doing, When I get home I fix it and repaint it.
