I'll probably need a nomex suit for posting this but my wife frankly doesn't care. So help a wheeler out guys. :D
She has her eye on a 87 Jeep Wrangler, very clean inside and out, new paint and top (soft) has the 4 cyl. and manual.
A real JU dream, stainless everything, chrome steelhorse tube bumpers, Smittybuilt nerfbars, ect.
Has 125K on it but I can't see it, Everything including the undercareage and motor looks like it did when it rolled out of the showroom. Very well maintained and not wheeled. :(
Yeah I know, post it on the JU, well two reasons. One, the JU boys would tack on thousands for all the :rainbow: shiat.
Two, my wife doesn't trust my judgement alone (because it's a Jeep  ) I guessed around 5K.??
And to just get this out of the way early..............:flipoff2:

Are you sure this is for your wife? :D

That would be a good price. A Wrangler in that kind of shape would go for around $6000 here in the Austin, Texas area.

Well it depends...I have found there are two general types of owners for these type of vehicles...

1) The kind that realize its an 87 and has 125K on it and is really 15 years old and realize by putting the extra chrome on it they didn't gain 15 extra HP per mod just appeal and no real value gained...

2) The kind that think it is the shit and nothing is better because its sooooo clean for being 15 years old and because they have all this shiney shiznit on it makes it is really only a couple years old and blah blah blah...I think you get my point...

now if its a #1 seller I would think around $3000-$3500(it only books at $3000 in excellent shape) if its a #2 seller I would think you should be looking at around $5000-$6500...I would personally only get it if it was $3500 or below...JMHO:D

I thought that 5K for a 4banger with 125K is steep.

Tell them.....Hey chrome this :flipoff2:

well i had a 95 four banger with only 67,000 miles on it and it got totald..... Insurance said it was worth 7,000...
I wouldent go over 4,000 if it is an 85.

87 HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS.. ESPICALLY IF THE NP 207 TANSFECASE IS INVOLVED.. "PETERSEN'D 4 WHEEL & OFF ROAD SAID IN THERE MARCH 2002 ISSUES..

BUY SOMETHING THAT NOBODYELSE WANTS... 87 WRANGLERS CARELOT OF BUYERS AWAY. DUE TO THE FACT THEY WERE CONSIDEED JUNK.... IF WE WANT ED TO BUILD UP A CUSTOM WRANGLER LIKE THIS WITH CUSTOM AXLES A V8 AND A NV4500 WE'D STAT WITH THE CHEAPEST ONE WE COULD FIND THIS MEAN A STOLEN( RECOVERED ) OR THE DREADED 87 YJ!

SO IF U REALLY WANT IT DONT GO OVER 3G'S AND TELL HIM TO TAKE HIS CHROME AND RIDE IT :flipoff2:

No way $5,000 for it. You could probably find a 92-94 for around that much with the 4 banger... There's one right up the road for around $5,700 in the 92-95 year range (I didn't really pay attenion to the year), and that's the used car dealers price, so you could deal from there....

i recantly sold a very similar 88YJ with AC and 160K on it for 3500.

Not for $5K. That is more than the normal price I have seen for a YJ of that year. Then again I guess it depends on where you are.

OK guys along the same lines if an 87 is good for 3500.00 which I agree with (although since it's gonna rust more take of 5 bucks each piece that's chromed)

What are your takes on an early 80's CJ-7 with no rust (yeah I know holy grail) not likely but waht would an ideal price for one that has maybe 31's on it with little to no mod's?

Ignore the prices for Jeeps in Texas. They get way too much for them down there. :flipoff2: Well, you do.

Welby is right on in the price department, especially for this part of the country (I'm in Cleveland).

Check Autotrader (duh).

Near me, there's a 91 4 cylinder with "no winters" on it for $5000. Or a 92 Sahara with a 5 speed "never off road" for $5000.

You can get more jeep for the same money, or the same jeep for less money.

Your right but turn the fawking caps lock off newbie. :flipoff2:

I wouldn't give more then $1500 for it.

TBI fuel injection, well at least it has fuel injection I guess.

Pucrap BA tranny POS clamshell housing is a boat ancor.

207 xfercase has issues but not as big of a POS as that tranny.

1987 was the first year of Chrysler's Wrangler and as with most other 1sts they fawked it up and didn't really get it fixed until '91.

If I were buying it I would expect to be swapping some stuff regaurdless of how good it looks on the outside, some of it is just poor design.

Just as an aside: Not all '87 YJs ended up with the 207. they switched midyear. Mine came stock with a 231. Check the round tag on the back of the case to be sure.

Oh, I'm lovin' this, all kinds of ammo to shoot them down with.
I'll take a closer look at it.
One thing, I pointed out to her is that the entire running gear in my 94 is getting swapped out. And, it won't cost anything to keep it around in case something happened to hers..........and it is for her! :flipoff2:
Keep the ammo coming. :p

I agree Dean, plus if it was repainted it couldnt have beenthat well maintained??? Sounds to me like someone used 17 cans of wd-40 on the drivetrain, repainted it, threw on some :rainbow: shit, and is tryin to get more than its worth. $3500 max. I would rather buy a piece of shit for 2K and do all those things I just said to make it look good. :)

I think they are worth it. You aren't going to find much rust on vehicles in this area--which is a big deal especially on something that old. Everything other than the frame and body will need to be replaced soon anyway. So what you are paying for is the body and frame basically. If these are in good shape, isn't it worth the extra money? If I were looking for an older Jeep, that is where I would look.

A buddy of mine bought a jeep when he was in the service up in washington. The thing is rusting to hell. Salt on the roads and just plain salt air will rust the crap out of a vehicle. You don't get that in climates like Texas has.

They must want to keep it for that..........$8700. what a joke.
Hell, I didn't pay that for my 94 and it had half the miles. (good thing it wasn't chromed to fawk)
I'm thinking about going back to flame them about it, just for some fun. :D
Keep this in mind guys, if you go to sell your rig, spend a few hundred on stainless and chrome, it almost triples it's worth.

There is a 97 up the road from me for $9000 and there is a 92 at work that the guy will take $3500 for. For $8700 I will sell you my 83 cj5 (no rust ever) along with my 72 cj5 (always rusty and bent and dented and rolled and on fire and....you get the picture).
