: Disc brake hub measurements

If this is Newby, please move it.
The Story:
Dana 30 front
I converted to disc brakes using:
Chev pickup calibers & caliber brackets
Jeep thick rotors
original hubs & spindles from the drum brakes.

I put the hubs in the lathe to turn down the inboard side flat to mount up to the rotor. I mounted everything up on the jeep temperarly and it seemed to fit. I relubed and set the bearing tight .... now the calibers will not remount, not enough room between the caliber bracket and the rotor for the inboard pad. I apparently didn't mill off enough material from the hub.

Right now I have:
0.527 inches between the rotor & caliber mount
0.603 inches thickness of inboard pad
so I need 0.076 more space plus some working space, "play"

0.451 inches is the thickness of the milled down hub now
so I need to take the hub down to 0.375 thick plus (less) the "play"

The questions:
How far down can I mill down the hub safely?
How much "play" do I need between the rotor & pad?
Can someone mearsure between caliber mount & rotor for me?

Can someone measure the thickness for their disc brake hub at the rotor mating surface to the wheel mating surface.

I got this on another forum:

This is a common problem with this conversion. Supposedly, there is a different bearing race you can use to correct this. Last time I changed the pads on mine, I just sanded down one of the pads about 1/16" so it would fit.

Any one know about this? Part number for the Race?

Thanks

I think the race you are talking about is for the late 78 and on CJ.Also when milling down the hub you need to take down the bosses on the back side of the hub, make it flat, like the frount.Do not hold me to the year, But I know it is later CJ.

Thanks Mike, I'm still researching that bearing race with no luck.
We have already milled down the hub, and have found that the stock disc thickness was 0.425. So I'll probably just mill my hubs down some more to 0.400 or maybe less and just take the rest of the space off the inboard pad. Unless I find somethings soon about the race ...... gotta go wheelin! the snow is melting fast!!!
