: Effects of toe on tire wear

I just had 35" Grabber MT's mounted up last fall, and today I noticed that my front tires are wearing like crazy on the inside, like there's not enough camber or something. Thing is, with TJ's, it's not adjustable... The rear tires are still like brand new.
Would improper toe have this kind of effect on wear? In January, I reset my toe to be 1/8" in... Keep in mind this was simply by measuring the distance bewtween the same lugs, front and back, using a tape measure. I'm sure it's not the most accurate method in the world, but it can't be that far off.
What a crock of shit! I'll be buying a new set of tires every summer at this rate :mad3:. Any opinions other than "Grabber MT's suck" :flipoff2:, would be appreciated :D

hey Mark :flipoff2:

start with having the truck professionally aligned, then start to rotate the tires. LF to RR, RF to LR.

oh yeah, and Grabber MTs suck :flipoff2: :p

Hey,I had Grabber MT's on my 84 Toyota truck and they wore great until Digger got them. Mine wore flat accross on all 4 and I never had the truck aligned. But I did have the tires rotated & balanced every 3k miles. The rotation and balancing was part of the road hazzard warranty.

Yep.

You're wheels are toed out by your tire wear description. They are being dragged sideways a bit as you roll down the road causing the wear on the inside edge.

I have used the tape measure method with good results. It definately is imperitive you do make sure you are measuring from identical tread blocks, though.
I also roll the vehicle's tires 180 deg. to eliminate any slight wobble variations and measure it again, averaging the two. Good quality tires are usually true.

i heard somewhere that for every one or two degrees that your tires are off of true it is like dragging them sideways 100 ft for every mile you drive.

Your Toe is off. I set my toe in to compensate for some death wobble, altough it worked, it ruined to BFG MT's. Fet it professionally aligned.

I know I am :D...

BTW my tires were toed out 2 fawkin inches ...Wonder why they were wearing funny ... Here's the deal, and yes, I'm an idiot. When I set the toe the last time, I had the front tires jacked off the ground... Perfect in the air, yes. but once back on the ground, all fawked up... That's the only reason I could think of for being that fawked up....

Todd,

I have the adjustable RE uppers, but it's safe to say I narrowed the problem down to my retarded 2" out toe setting :D

DAMN!! On my XJ I did my own alignment after the lift. I started out with zero. It would wander and had very bad death wobble. I just did the toe-in 2 turns and drive it till it felt tight and the death wobble was gone. It ended up a little over 1/8. 12,000 miles on my MT's and no tire wear. But I rotate mine every 3000. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
