I'm looking to Spring over on my 93 YJ. What I was wondering is has anybody tried to use the WJ knuckles to build a high steer system on the D30. I'm doing the Spring over with 4" springs and want to alleviate any steering issues from the start.
Burnsville Off Road (BOR) has done it. Article in one of the Mags...
I think you need a spacer...
Why not get the new Tera Knuckle? Looks much stronger than a WJ.

the tera knuckle won't work sprung over with such big springs...
IF you are goign to keep the dana 30 the ONLY way, in my opinion, is to either do the WJ knuckle and brake swap (which will work great and help stopping power) or get the jb4x4 steering bracket...
this is a pic of the jb bracket on a local yj... he said he's yet to have it give him any trouble and steering is MUCH MUCH MUCH better....

personally, i'd invest as little as possible in that front axle.... do what you have to do to get it "done" and then start savings for a dana 44.... THEN buy a "real" hi-steer kit...

What tires are you looking to run with that kind of lift? Between a spring over and 4" springs you are looking in the 9" of lift neighborhood. That's going to be pretty tall for any tires that you really want to run on a D30.

how big a tire will you run? with 1.5 to 2.5 inches you can get 35's. i'm not sure what size you can put in with 4" or how strong the D30 is with bigger than 35" tires. i say the cheapest is to go with a teraflex knuckle and a WJ steering arm which you can center. awesome turning radius, no bumpsteer. that's what i'm running with 1.5" SOA springs from RubiconExpress front and Rancho 2.5's in the rear, with 35's, 4.88's on D30/D44 rear.

I dug this out of one of my old files from when I did my TJ... HTH

These are two sites and JU has a lengthy thread on doing this modification. It’s a bit involved but in the end I feel it was worth it. JKS has DOM for the drag link and tie rod (pre-cut and threaded, 24mm x1.5), jam nuts for the tie rod ends (WJ), sway bar relocation brackets, bearing hub ¼” spacers (need to be nickel welded to the knuckle). Go find an HPd30 and start building it while you still enjoy driving your jeep. I used a TF adjustable track arm and removed the bends (cold bending) and cut about 7” off the driver’s side then rethreaded it, works great.
As I found out, none of the sites that you review are all encompassing for your application. This is NOT a modification I would recommend doing unless you plan on building the axle on a stand. The braking with the Explorer disc’s on the new HP 9” rear axle and the WJ disc setup on the front with just the O ring removed from the metering shaft in the proportioning valve (OEM) with the stock master cylinder is very good. I’m running 35 BFG MT’s and it brakes better than a stock TJ... IMO ;)
Also do the reverse taper modification on the WJ knuckle arms to get better clearance for the tie rod and drag link. The JKS track arm relocation bracket comes with holes (2) for mounting in either location for getting the track arm and drag link parallel…
did it on stock springs with the JKS stuff, I did flip the drag link hole

Look for Matt Pascoe, he did his with SOA, to this day he still has the WJ steering with coilovers.

You sure he's got the WJ stuff?

I'm looking to run 35's on it. I'm putting an 8.8 in the rear and don't want the hassle of carrying to different spares. I'm going to regear to either a 4.33 or 4.56, haven't decided yet.
