Ok so im about to replace my t case froma 249 to a 231 and figured while I was down there I might as well go ahead and replace front and rear axels as well.
I Hardly use the 4x4 as I live in south texas and we are pretty much flat. But I would like the peace of mind knowing it is solid if the need for it should ever arrive.
So I decided apon an 8.8 out of a 95 + exploder to replace the d35 in the rear, The problem im haveing is I really dont know where to start with the front d30, Any recommendations?
I tried searching for d30 swap, But search is disabled at the moment. Very sorry to post a question you probably get 500 times a month. But I need help. I forgot to add and this is probably pertenant I will never go beyond a 35 " tire.

Why do you want rid of the D30? There is nothing wrong with that axle...especially if you never use 4 wheel drive.

Stay away from '82-'84 Waggy fronts because of the vacuum disconnect. Pre '80 models were passenger drop. Also, the bolt patterns won't match: Waggies are 6x5.5" and the 8.8s are 5x4.5".

Ok what rig are you talking about? XJ, TJ or YJ????
1. Make sure you have the 760 u-joint's.. The same as any D44.
2. You can get after market shaft’s (Yukon, USA Alloy & ???) and beef it up.
3. If you plan to stay at 35's and keep the wheeling/skinny pedal under control you'll have no problems. If you lay on the skinny to much you'll bust... and that can bust any axle.
I have a YJ and put in TJ shafts and have the 760 u-joint's. With the R & P being a rev. rotation it make's them a bit stronger in the front. So my D30 is pretty close to a d44 as is. I have the 8.8 in the rear and it take a lot of the stress off the front and will let it last longer.

I'd agree with Upnover. I have a D30 under my YJ and I run some very difficult trails, including the Rubicon. I've never had a problem. If you don't use it much don't waste your $$$'s on it. As far as your rear axle goes, all jeeps deserve to dump their D35's. That just goes without saying.
