Well I have a TJ with the 21 gallon tank, (i think) well it is alittle too deep and is now hitting my rear 60. I was wondering if the smaller tank was shallow or what?
I am probaly going to have to make a gas tank! Anyone on here make there own tank? my sending/pump unit will collapse to 9" so i will be able to get it in the frame! What did you use? I will probaly use heavy wall aluminum and tig all the seams so I know there will not be any stress cracks form the bends. then all I will need is to find a piece of pipe as big as the unit and a couple of tube we are in buisness! I will loose some gas storage but who cares!!!!!!

Just make sure you incorporate some baffles in the tank. I was going to make my own, but I think I found a way around it. I think there are some people here who have made there own, hopefully they will chime in.

The TJ tank is 19 gallons....It's the same tank as the 15 gallon one, but modified somehow to accept 4 more gallons, and give the dealer a good reason to charge you more....
Here's one thing I found on it, so apparently they only make one size tank (Outside dimension wise)
Here's how to "enlarge" your TJ gas tank, written by Ian Zavatkay:
Take down the tank and gain access to the top. Unscrew the sending unit/pump/filter and pull it out. It holds about a litter of fuel inside to keep the pump cool, so lift it straight out and tilt it back into the tank.
The column is more like a telescoping unit. It can slide up or down. Tabs on the side allow it to click in two positions. 15g and 20g. Sliding it down lowers the intake of the whole assembly, where before it sat about 4.5 inches above the tank bottom. The float acutally drops because of this making the whole system fairly accurate now.
I don't know about yours, but my fuel gauge lied all the time. Empty ment I had 4 gallons left and it would always drop hard on the last quarter. Now it's consistant all the way through
This doesn't help with the hitting the 60 problem, but at least it will keep you from hunting down a smaller tank that doesn't exist :)

Well just got a tank drawn up and will post asap when I get done! I will be making out of 1/8 aluminum (formable not tempered) and will be able to use my sending unit so my guage will work!

my friend matt just bought a sweet ass cell from summit, it was only like a buck 20, cut a little hole out of the floor in the bed of the jeep for the sump and the lines end everything went right to the frame rail from the sump real easy!!
