If I wanted to stay narrow. With a 4" lift and 35's on a 79 cj7. Would I end up on my lid all the time.

 What does that have to do with the thread?

It means he could fit those 35's on there without a 4" lift...which would make it more stable...which would keep it off it's lid...which would anwser the original question as well as your question to the relivance of my first response. I was merly sugesting that I would flat fender or tube fender the front fenders and cut the rears out...that way he would not even need the lift...Is it clear enough to you yet??? I don't think I can get much simpiler without pictures...

I only have about a 3" lift on mine with 35" boggers and good fender trimming. No problems.........YET!! I have had it on its sides but not because it was too narrow. Just a bad line. :D

You are a few inches wider. On a CJ7 that old it will be a narrow track.
You will need to tub your fenders or get some rims with less offset. My frient has 32x11.5's on his 1979 and 2.5" lift. His fenders are pretty well warn from rubbing.

Ok calm down I was just asking a question, and I would like to see pictures of that, I have seen pictures of heavily trimmed YJ's with 36s and a 2.5" lift that still look like they would rub fenders, I would be interested to see this.

I flat fender the front. Not to sure where to cut the rears. Just got it all together. Had two jeeps in a bunch of pieces.

I know lots of guys that ran/run 35s on sprung over narrow jeeps (including myself) without problems. Yes they lean, are alittle tippy and can't turn as sharp, but jeeps are like that sometmes. :smokin:

Depends on your wheeling type. Everything but hardcore rock-crawling may not even introduce sufficient overturning moment to induce a roll. benefit is you can do more narry stuff than the big boys, but they are much more comfy off-camber.

. . . There are alternatives to going full-width, don't ya know.

The CJ became the YJ because of the 'on-your-lid' problem due to street-driving; imagine what more height and bigger tires does to that potential.

I advise you to cage your rig and add recovery gear, then investigate it yourself. You'll always find more confidence with a wider and longer stance, but that doesn't mean you can't do 95% of what you want with what you got.

I run an SOA YJ (5.5 ~ 6" of lift) narrow on 33s. No problems yet. Just watch your line, it you feel it going over back out of it.

But to be safe - when you buy your lift save some coin for a good stout cage.

How about 2" of lift with 34's?

This was back when it was still narrow, too.

yj's are already wider than cj's and i think hes talking about flopping side to side not front to back,

For the last three years on my 79 CJ7 I ran a SOA 1.5" RE springs and 35" claws. I flat fendered my front and comp cut the rear. I did not rub and it was stable.

I agree. I am wider - but also taller. The key to being narrow is knowing about where your rig wants to go over.

I guess I'll get a cage. And find out.

I have a 4'' (probably sagged down to a 3") sprung under and 36x12.50s on 8" wide wheels with narrow tracks and 1 1/2" wheel spacers and it is pretty tipsy on any off camber stuff. Without the wheel spacers I definitely would have been on my lid multiple times. You can squeeze different lines, but if I were you I would go with some wider axles right off the bat rather than building the narrow tracks. At leat get some spacers if you put 35s on the narrow tracks. Also, the tires rub ppretty bad on the front and rear inner-fenders. I flatfendered it and have TJ flares in the rear.

Maybe go with something wider, but not full width, say Scout or Wagoneer 44's?
