I have a mid 70's f-250 custom with a dana 60 rear....I wanted to know what the spline is on the shafts and what gear options there were...I will post the numbers tomorrow...Thanks in advance....Jeremy

30 spline. what kind of gears are you looking for ratio wise?

Pull the shaft out and count the splines, it's not a difficult job.
My rear 60 out of a 72 F250 had 16 spline shafts...

Ok....I was hoping that it would be better.... I am looking for something 4.56 and 35 spline.. Do you by chance know what trucks these rears came in. I am not having any luck with this. I have a 60 in my truck now with the 4.88's but it is also 30 spline and the 4.88 ratio is just a bit to low for me... Thanks again, Jeremy

I know that its not a difficult job...I just dont have a lot of experience with ford 60's and I couldnt get to the truck when I posted this... I am looking for a specific axle and I was just wondering if it could of come in this truck... I got the truck for free and was just trying to be optimistic....Thanks though, Jeremy

Why are you worried about a 60? Some of them werent 30 spline, but you say its a mid 70's so I was brought to that conclusion. You can find a dana 70 (like in a junkyard) which has 23, or 35 splines. I dont think they ever came with a 4.56 ratio, but it can be bought. 60 spindles can also be bored to accept 35 spline axle shafts.

I see your in sanata cruz. I know of quite a few 70's around the area so if you need to know where there at let me know. They will drop right into you truck too.

There were lots of D70s with 4.56 gears. If you can find a motorhome from the '70s it should have a D70HD with 4.56 gears, two piece carrier, 4 spider gears and large brakes. You can move the brakes out with a shorter drum, or convert to disc. I have a couple right here. (Oregon)
