This quesstion is actually for a friend of mine and I really don't know all the behaviors of this vehicle. However, from what I have gathered it chokes and floods etc. Here in Colorado the fix would be to jet it and be done with it.

It's a 79 full size with 400ci. My question is this: Who makes a replacement carb for this vehicle that adresses this problem? The reason I ask like this is because I'm not sure if it was this year but one of them was problematic and some company (race outfit?) made a replacement. I know back then they were trying to get carb to think they were fuel injected for emission purposes.

If anyone knows that would be great, or has a suggestion.

the stock carb was a motorcraft 2bbl, GREAT carb....first thing i would do is buy a rebuild kit and rebuild it, they are dirt simple and the powervalve may be bad in it.

Napa, Car Craft, Advance, and O'Reilly's are good places to start looking for a new carb. On the other hand, you and your buddy could try rebuilding it. I think Summit sells a master rebuild kit for the Motorcraft 2150.

The aftermarket outfit you mentioned could have been Holley. Holley's have many features that can make them tempermental and require a user to be proficient in tuning them.

Thanks guys. Sounds like a carb kit and jets is the fix.
