I know some info about the dana 44 and the amc 20 but i cant find out which one has better ground clearance under the diff. I would like to get a dana 44 rear and put some shafts and a detroit in it but what im finding is more amc 20 rear stuff. so is the ground clearance about the same? if so do you think i should just get the 20 since there is more stuff for it and more junk wagoneers out there? oh and if there is a site for rear dana 44 goodies, please post it up, i cant seem to find any.

well I personaly would get the 20 just from the stand point that with shafts it is strongert and parts are cheaper, also the are a dime a dozen. now on the other hand they do have some draw backs such as thiner axle tubes and less gear choices. so its up to you. oh also with the 44 there are a tone of different offsets and if you are trying to use j-yard shafts than the 20 is a much better choice

Personally I would go with the Dana 44, but if you get a 20 throw on an axle truss and install some one piece shafts and it should be a pretty good axle...

most 20's are junk. most have two piece axles and very weak tubes. with that said, my buddy has one that is a later one. it has very thick tubes and the one piece axles. if you do run a 20, make sure it is a later one with the better tubes and axles.
one of the good things about them is they have a strong R&P. could there be a reason hummers used AMC 20 center sectons in their portal axles?
