I dunno but I do know you have a 8.8 rearend and there not much for offroading.Upgrade to the ford 9 inch then do the disks upgrade.

Isn't much of an upgrade unless you throw some aftermarket parts at it
You might be able to use Explorer rear discs on it, the only thing would probably be whether the center bore of the rotors fits over the axle hub.
Not sure on who's offering disc conversion kits though (seems like something Google could easily find though).

imo they put drums on the rear of trucks to aid in braking with heavy loads. if that wasn't true then all tractor trailers would have disk brakes. i don't think you'll get the increase in braking power that you want while towing if you switch to disks. Especially not the kind of increase you want for the $$$ you'll have to spend to switch them.

don't know if drums are better, i did the conversion on my 14 bolt rear and i run 42x16x15 tsl's and have locked them up. that conversion wasn't bad-100 for rotors-50 for calipers-60 for the brackets and misc stuff somewhere around 225. i should add a proportioning valve, so i'm looking at another 35 for the nice willwood like i have in my other truck, still better than some of the kits out there for like 900.00.

i agree that disks are better for wheeling, but i don't think you'd be doing as well if you put a loaded trailer behind it.

Discs don't necessarily grab better than drums, but they DO dissipate heat faster (if vented). Exploder discs are not vented however.
Discs are finally making their way onto bigger trucks now (I don't think you can buy a F-350/K3500/Ram3500 with drums anymore).

99+ fords are disks on all four corners. Just get a 99+ F150 with a 4.2L or 4.6L and it will have an 8.8 disks and drop it in if you really want too.

i guess i was a little misguided about that. i'd like to see some disks that they put on a tractor trailer :D haha 3 foot tall rotors!!!
i definately wouldn't use exploder parts on a full size though. are explorer axles 5 on 4.5 or are they 5.5 too

They're 5x4.5
You can easily redrill a 5.5" pattern on them though, there's plenty of room.
(but now that I think about it further, the F-150 flange OD might be too big to fit in the "hat" part of the rotor, not sure)

how about the new pickups with rear disc? oh and they do have disc for 18 wheelers now, they are only on the front but drums has nothign to do with stopping power, yeah theres a good 10" of shoe there but with disc it still stops better. why do you think everyone is swapping over to disc, they stop those big trucks and tires like nothing

Since no one else has suggested it, I will. Get trailer brakes. :D
I agree with the others. The cost of converting to rear disc brakes wouldn't be worth the $$$, as it probably won't help stopping much, if any. Your biggest problem is you have a smaller, lighter truck.

that has already been said, i appologize for being such a dumbass, but i did say that even if they did help stop, it wouldn't be enought to justify the cost of doing so. trailer brakes are a good idea, but if the trailer doesn't already have trailer brakes on it more than likely doesn't weigh enough to make your truck have trouble stopping it.
