It was really amazing.. In the US you have to get aftermarket A/C units for the LCs? My 1979 Cherokee has an OEM Land Cruiser A/C system installed... See the botom picture..

Ehsan, in the US you could also get the OEM A/C setup, it was a factory option from 1979 to 1983, and it was available on both FJ40's and 1979 FJ55's.

I have one of those turn style handle glove box doors on my '82 FJ40, however it is not lockable. I think I'd take the options you had available over a glove box door though... full floaters, diesels, troopies, etc.

If you drove a 1976 FJ40 with "factory A/C", it wasn't factory, it was a DEALER OPTION (available from 1975+). Some of these are even Nippondenso, but Land Cruisers were never imported into the US with factory A/C until 1979, the units were installed by individual Toyota dealers and vary wildly in style, brand, size, etc...

Or it could be that someone swapped the A/C out of a later model FJ40 into that 1976. With FJ40's getting so old, sometimes it's really tough to figure out modifications that were done 15 years ago, they may look stock by now.

you're right, it was dealer option...and a necessary one for arizona!

once again 60seriesguy knows more random cruiser facts! :D :p
