How important is this and would it work okay without it?

Yes it will work okay without it. It would suck to put in a new clutch and then have it get ruined because the flywheel needed resurfaced. It is only like $30 bucks to have it resurfaced.

It depends on how bad your fly wheel is. Your new clutch is going to chatter a bit for a while but shuld quit once broken in. Without surfacing it will may take longer to seat and chatter worse...

a mechanic i used to go said i didnt needed to resurface my flywheel.

here i am 3 years later 2 clutches burnt studing to and wrenching myself
:mad3:

DO IT. NOT DOING IT IS A MAJOR MISTAKE. your new clutch is going to start slipping until it kills the clutch disk.

btw i plan to buy another clutch and a lightweight flywheel to make a great setup on my mx6

I always get mine resurfaced. You don't have anything to lose but a couple of bucks. But with mine the guy I got it from didn't change the clutch out till the last minutes, and the rivets on the pad had ground a grove around the hole thing.

The place I got mine done, they resurface for free with purchase of a kit.

i have been the guy that resurfaces them at a machine shop. i would recomend it. most of the time, if the clutch is worn out, it has done some damage to the surface of the flywheel. i have seen it all. get it done, it will be worth it trust me.
