I need some DOM tubing for my steering but not sure what size to get. I'm gonna run the threaded adapters for gm 1 ton tie rod ends that are 7/8 18 thread count. The inside diameter for hte tubing needs to be 1" for the adapters. Whats the optimal size tubing to look for and thickness to use for some abuse.
I know it sounds cheaper to build it, but at $15 bucks a pop for those inserts and $12 bucks a foot for DOM tube, ( since your buying a small amount) your looking at $66, and you have not even welded the inserts. Need to add a couple bucks there too, so now it more like $70 for a homemade steering part. http://www.wfoconcepts.com/ I bought a drag link, that was threaded on the inside, and milled on the ends so you can put a wrench on it vs a pipe wrench for $70.

think of trying a local machine shop and having it built out of HREW? will definately be cheaper in the long run. Look for 1.5" .250 wall for ultimate strength, but I tend to overkill for safety.

thats nothing. my tierod is 1.5" OD 3/8's wall DOM. we just drilled it and tapped it for the 7/8 thread. no tube adapters needed.
