: cases that bolt up to a C4?
road1will 04-11-2002, 05:32 PM i have a D20 in my truck, but i would like to swap to something with a passenger side drop so that i can run a chevy or dodge D60 front axle.
are there any transfer cases out there that will bolt to my C4 that have a pass. side drop?
thanks!
try a Jeep or Scout D-20, they might work with some swaping of parts to get you the pass. drop.
Eric
The Ford EB Dana 20 case has a nice round face.
The Jeep / Scout has a Texas pattern, so they will not bolt up, but you might be able to figure something out?
As far as I know the only T-case to come behine a C4 is a Ford EB Dana 20. Have you thought of a custom set up?
Good Luck

well if i have to go and spend the 500 bucks for an adapter plus another 200 for the transfer case, i might as well swap the whole shebang out for a 351W/C6/Chevy NP205
a chevy NP205 will bolt to a ford C6 right?

I knew the D-18 had the texas bolt pattern, I didn't know the D-20 in the heeps came the same way, oh well, live and learn.
The other possability is if the face of the jeep D-20 is flat then maybe have a machine shop drill the Jeep T-case for the Ford round pattern and plug the texas pattern holes.
anyway just a thought if you're on a budget.

Do you feel you could make your own custom adapter?
Most C4's (70's+) are 28 splines, so start with that. Or respline a 2WD C4 F150 shaft.
Alpo23, I do like your idea, need some investigation.
Then again the C6 idea is a good one, if you have the wheel base.

unfortunately i do not feel that i could make my own adapter. i do think that i have the wheel base for a C6, at 102", but im not sure.
on an unrelated note, what do you think a 12,000 mile rebuilt 302 with a cam, intake, and carb would sell for along with a 5,000mi performance low geared rebuilt C4 and a stock EB D20?
pavelow 04-11-2002, 08:02 PM If your gonna do a swap, why not go all out and get the adapter for an atlas? Of course its not for everyone, but hell, if your gonna swap, why not go big? Or would that be low?:D
road1will 04-11-2002, 08:04 PM $$$
thats why.
offroadr35 04-11-2002, 08:06 PM adam, i'm in your same situation. I eventually want lower gears in the bronco, plus there's no way the d20 is gonna hold up. I thought about atlas but decided i'd rather go C6-klune 4.3-205. Virtually bomb proof plus it gives a low, medium low, and really low ratio. I'll probably have about 100" wheelbase when i do that. The C6-205 aren't too hard to find and the whole thing can be done for not much more than the cost of an atlas.

I am looking at a 5.0L C4 203 D20 and it'll add ~5" for a shaft of 17". I'm getting a little nervious about that so I'll move the rear back 2" when I do.
Other words, I'd guess it'd fit in your Land Rover at 102"

I've seen C4's with the T-case go for $450, got mine for $350.
Flatty 04-11-2002, 08:30 PM OK, I was gonna build my own adapter from a C4 to a NP203 to a D20, but in all my thinking, I decided I am gonna do a motor, tranny, t-cases swap when I am ready. Gonna be the cheapest easiest way to go. Going 460, C6, 203, 205. I can score the motor, tranny and t-case for pretty cheap at most places. I am guessing about 1000 for everything. another 700 for the doubler, and I am BULLETPROOF. I would love to go 302 C6 203, 205, but I have no clue wher to get a C6 with a 203 behind it that fits behind a 302.

Dimitri, you'll have to piece this one together. For the C-6 to 289/302/351 you need to look for a Big Bronco or F-150/F-250 from 1980 and newer, these have a NP-208 but are set up for the t-case length of the output shaft. Then look for a 77 1/2-'79 F-series Pickup with the married NP-203 for the adapter and t-case, also in some '78-'79 bronco's, but more commen in the F-150/F-250.
If for some reason Ford put a 300 inline six cylinder in a '78/'79 F-150/250 4x4 then this might be the ticket by I don't remember anything other than a 351/400M being availible in these years for the 4x4 applications.
Good Luck.
Eric
