Shell Casing Extractor Gone Bad?

Got a varmit rig a few years back, a savage .17HMR with SSBull Barrel and Blk Synth stock, recently have had problems with the shell extractor not removing the shell from the breech. Cleaned and oiled mechanism, ect. Nothing seems out of place, damaged ect. Always case kept, brought out a few times a year. Any ideas as to what is causing this, any one else with same model having the same problem?

Dirty chamber can cause sticky case extraction.

you cant fit a .17 case in a .22lr breech. .22 mag, yes :flipoff2:

Its an erratic problem, but like I said everything was dissassembled and cleaned so nothing dirty.

What model is it? I was given a .22 mag Lakefield arms 93(IIRC), same as the savage 93 and I think similar to the 502. Anyways, it had a broken magazine and the extractor was bad. I took it apart and the end of the extractor had been worn down. Instead of being a point, it had rounded off. IIRC, the extractor can be removed from the bolt and reversed.... or I filed it down. Can't recall. :laughing: I'm pretty sure I reversed it though. Its easy to take apart- I'd rarely worked on any guns before this one. (I'll take a look at it again this afternoon and see what I did)

:laughing: I still haven't replaced the magazine, but its fun as a single shot for plinking. :D Not a tack driver, but the accuracy did surprise me. I need to find some bulk ammo to make it cheaper to shoot....

its the model 93 I believe, ill check it out, that could be a problem. maybe factory issue? I looked to see if there was any recalls but there wasnt any I found. Ditto on the ammo however, 13 bucks for a box of 50, not a good deal for me. I go through almost a box every sitting. Mine is really a teck driver however, it will shoot a 1" group of 5 out to 200 when its on. Wind effects it alot however, if its windy forget about it. recently my scope went haywire, it shot about 2ft off target. it was a simmions 40mm 3-9x. Im looking for a new one, prolly BSA 8-32x 50mm

Wow. .22 mag CCI are about 6-7 for a box of 50. I like .22 LR, CCI are about $5 for 100. :D

Well, the rifle may very well be a tack driver, but I'm not that good. :laughing: I haven't put it in a bench rest or anything, but at about 135' I was hitting within 1.5-2" with open sites. Good enough to terrorize some coke cans. :D

My brother's 10/22(with scope) is crazy accurate and easy to shoot. It was getting too easy to pepper the cans, and we couldn't go further away because we were blocked by trees behind us, so I started knocking the lids off of water bottles. We ran out of lids so we found a rhino beetle in the brush pile we were using as a backdrop and set it on the side of a log. First one to hit it wins, me with the .22 mag(open sights. :( , brother with the 10/22). I got in one (close :D ) shot for his 3, before he knocked the head clean off. :laughing:

ever try to hit a squirrel at 200~ yrds, much less be able to see it? 32x would be a godsend compared to 9x, and I can still dial it down to 8x for those "close" shots.

There is .17hmr ammo cheaper ($10 for 50) but I like to get the polymer tip ones. :smokin:

a 10/22 is next on my list, with an aimpoint, pistol grip, extensions, ect. Would be nice to have a good fast action gun.

Any luck with the fix yet? Haven't had a chance to look at mine yet, will try to remember this afternoon.
