: ID this trans?
LT1SCOUT 04-29-2006, 10:18 PM its a manual transmission in my dad's 1968 chevy c50 winch truck. shifter knob says its a five speed but im doubtful of that. its got a pto for the monster winch on the drivers side and a pto cover on the passenger side. after looking at novak's site i dont think its a 465. it may be some kinda wierd old 5 speed.
that doesnt look like your average pto box does it?
btw, thats the back of the trans you're looking at.

u2slow 04-29-2006, 11:25 PM I'd say its a probably a Clark - most are direct 5th rather than OD. Looks like the big round bellhousing too... I believe that makes it the large input shaft (1-1/2").
Here's pic of a Clark 285:

LT1SCOUT 04-29-2006, 11:46 PM thanks. i was burning up google trying to figure it out.
i would say its not a 285 from the pic. know where i can get more info on the other clark trannies?
i dont know what the big round bellhousing is, but its bolted to a small block chevy.
i dont guess any transfer cases will bolt to them will they?
LT1SCOUT 04-30-2006, 12:31 AM i searched on here, clark is the keyword.

Davethorik 04-30-2006, 02:26 PM sure there isn't a tag on it somewhere?
edit: i just got a NP542 GL out of a Chevy C60 school bus chassis. it actually resembles that tranny alot (from behind, at least) :

but the shift pattern is different:

it has a big tag on it giving you pertinent info. soo...yours might have one. somewhere.
EDIT2: if anyone has a dust cover for one of these...drop me a PM.
LT1SCOUT 04-30-2006, 04:47 PM i saw some np trannies on the net and thought the same thing, but i dont think this is one of them. i crawled all up under there looking for a tag but didnt find one. here are some more pics i got today. any idea where the tag would be? maybe i just didnt see it.

Davethorik 04-30-2006, 06:01 PM the tag on my NP was on the passenger side, kinda high up.
b454rat 04-30-2006, 06:21 PM If the tag is there, it will behind the linkage for the parking brake.
LT1SCOUT 04-30-2006, 07:47 PM looked at it again and the four brads for a tag are there, high on the drivers side, but no tag.
checked the faded tag on the glovebox door and it says NP541GL
New Process 541GL 7.25:1 3.88:1 2.19:1 1.37:1 1.00:1 7.22:1
thanks for the help
nice, now is there anyway to bolt a t-case to it?
grljeeper 05-01-2006, 06:45 AM The casting--C30-16------- means it is a Spicer trans synchroed in 2/3 and 4/5. It is a 3000 series trans most likely a 3152

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but to back up what grljeeper said...from what I have seen, New Process five speeds (like mine) do NOT have 1st under reverse. They have them on the opposite sides of the "tree." Also yours has a bolt on shift tower AND it does not look like it is made out of aluminum, which most NP trannies are. I can't say what it is, but its probably NOT a New Process.
EDIT: t- case will have to be divorced or extremely custom made. that's what I am doing with mine.
4x4Poet 05-01-2006, 10:43 PM I wish I had grljeeper's tranny expertise.:( :crybaby2:
