Hey everyone, im from the JEEP section of this board and i ventured over here to ask a couple questions.

I am looking for a salvaged chevy vehicle to swap the engine and driveline into my wrangler. My question is, what years/models to look at? I am looking for a injected 350 (TBI) with a pretty strong tranny xcase and axles. Also how much $$ should a decent salvage truck be?

Thanks everyone

Your best axels are of corce out of a 1 ton chevy late 70's(not positive when the dana 60's started, might look in the por bible) - 86(the end of the solid front axel) A beter doner motor IMHO would come from a tpi camero

FI started in 87. D60 fronts started around 76. and were available through 91 (on crew cabs...they did the body change in 92).
Tranny is a hard call. 4l80 is a good tranny but they came out of 91 and newer 1 tons. TH400 is as stout as it gets.
What your asking for the best truck to get would be a 87 up through 91 Crew cab 1 ton is the mostlikly source for the stongest parts all in one shot.

Im still kinda in the grey about tranny. If i go manual i want 420, if i go auto, id most likely use a th350, th400 is so damn big. What kinda t-cases do these chevy's run? anything i should def. look for? The more i look at it, a ford 8.8 is the axle i want, but i want a chevy for everything eles, will the u-joint still work? Well thanks for the info, and sorry for the questions, just dont want to :nuke: the damn thing
