: Question on 2" chevy lift.

I'm installing a 2" lift on my 87 1/2 ton chevy. The rear is done. New springs instead of blocks. And it seems that the shocks are almost at full extension with truck sitting "normally". Doesn't seem right. Also when I measured the springs they came out to be 48" w/o a load which is quite a bit shorter than my stock 52" springs. With a load on them their only at 50". I'm guessing as the springs break in they'll lengthen? (obviously). I haven't gotten to the front yet so I think that has part to do with why the rear is sitting "wierd" right now.

Any other Ideas?? Wrong rear springs??

Are you measuring the springs from "eye to eye" or along the arc of the spring? A lifted spring can come "looking shorter" due to when it is compressed it won't be over extended, or limited by the shackle.
As to your shocks, did you reuse the originals, or replace them with shocks that are longer to compensate for the height? Your shocks may have been a little short to start off with. Consult the lift spring manufacturer, or any 4x4 retail outlet for the recommended shocks.

I was measuring the springs eye to eye. Once loaded they did flatten out to 50" and I would assume once they settle in they should end up about right. As for the shocks the shocks are what came in the 2" Superlift system. The fronts are fine, right about in the middle of their travel. The rears still don't have much droop travel but that's not to big a deal since this truck isn't gonna be use off road much if at all.

Thanks

Good to hear all is o.k. As you have found, lifted springs will "flatten out" to resume normal length. I'm sure a lot of us would recommend that you get a shock that best fits, ie that the shock is at mid-travel when it is installed so that it will cycle more efficiently. Also if there were ever a time that you happened to have needed that little extra travel without busting mounts off, then you would be covered.
I'm sure that you'll be o.k. for now. :D
Good luck and happy wheeling.

Thanks! I'm gonna start driving it more now so I'm sure that the springs will flatten out more as they break in. Which should bring the shocks into their mid-range of travel a little more. But I think I'm still gonna call Superlift and find out what the deal is. Doesn't seem right since the fronts fit correctly.

Oh well.

Thanks again.
