The more and more i drive around the NE countryside the more places I see that could be KICK ass places to wheel.

I was wondering of someone had a "DRAFT" of a letter they've submitted to someone or some organization in an effort to get some land opened up for OHV type use.

I just don't know how to approach the subject in a professional and SERIOUS manner.

My ojective of course would not to be like this: "Hey we want to drive all over your land and we'll try not to fuck it up"

Anyone have anything for me to go off of??

Thanks in advance.

First off, find out who owns the land so you know who to deal with. Dealing with BLM is different from State agencies. If it is private, then your out of luck unless you want to buy it and turn it into an OHV park for your friends...

As suggested, first you need to know who the decision makers are, all of them. Then you need to figure out how to convince them that letting you wheel is somehow benficial to them. A couple ways to do this include economics if it's a small town controlled or influenced piece of property. There are numerous instances where OHV use has greatly impacted the local economy in a very positive way, the Piaute ATV system in SE Utah, Clayton OK, Moab UT to name a few. Then when you are prepared to meet and make your pitch you set something up with the decision makers. Be professional but friendly and casual and convince them that it's in their best interest to support your idea. Project the anti stereotype. Try to anticipate their hesitation points, things like their liability, wanton destruction, drinking and driving, etc. Invite them to accompany you and your club to see what you're really interested in doing so they can understand and be comfortable with the activity.
