this will be a general opinion for those who have rebuilt them.
I am just about to tear into it and was just wondering waht i really should be looking for as to what should be replaced. I really dont know much about this tranny since i just yanked it out of a 77 f150 in the bone yard.
should i just replace berings and seals or is there more i should be looking for, ya i know the obvious.
also where is a good cheap place to get a rebuild kit.
thanks in advance!

Mine works very good. Below is a link to the rebuild kit I used.

i used the same one....works great if you follow the instruction that come with it....the key is the syncro preloads and the endplay on the shafts

That seems to be a great kit, but is there anything (like specific gears ) that i should really pay special attention to during tear down.

Use common sense on everything. If the gears have a chipped tooth or are wore down or something that will effect them, pick up another tranny or order another set of gears, whether it is the cluster shaft or just a gear. Keep everything nice and clean too.
Hopefully the instructions come with an exploded view, sometimes its hard to remem where all the little things go, especially if you don't understand how it works together.
These things are a dime a dozen around here. I have 3.. probably all will end up with the same problems but if you find there's something wrong with something not in the kit I'd go see if someone has another. The 2wd models are almost throw-away around here..

Hey guys, what is the little bracket you have to push down and turn to get the shifter out of the 435? I broke mine and I need to find a replacement, anyone know where to get one or how much? Thanks, Dave

well i got it for 25 so i figure its worth the price of the rebuild to do it. I really only want to put this tranny in once with no internal unforseen problems. thats why im rebuilding it.
