Hey guys,

My '87 F150 4x4 with a 4.9 and a 4-speed OD manual trans hasn't been running right. When idling though a parking lot and turning the engine will bog down really bad and sometimes stall. I'm not holding the wheel at full lock when I do this, just turning into a spot to park. I have to pad the gas a little to make it. I tried replacing the steering pressure sensor on the power steering hose and it didn't help. fluid is not low either. It has been idling kind of rough when sitting still as well. I also noticed that the check engine light isn't coming on when I turn the key on. I get a red light that says "engine," but no yellow "check engine" light. I pulled the dash apart and found that the check engine bulb had been removed. I replaced it with a known good bulb and it still won't light. I'm not sure what's the problem there. I decided to pull the codes using a test light with a jumper wire in the proper places on the DCM and Self Test harnesses. Here are the results:

KOEO
67 twice
31 twice

Engine running
11 twice

Trans was in neutral and the AC was switched to off throughout the whole test. What do these codes tell me? What do you guys think the problem is?

The truck had a full tune up including cap, rotor button, wires, plugs and fuel filter. I've also replaced the Idle Air Control motor and the steering pressure switch as I said above.

Any ideas?

Alright, so the 67 code means the neutral safey switch is malfunctioning, but the truck won't start in gear.

The neutral start switch would have nothing to do with this.

The power steering pump may be going bad and loading the engine too much. Does the pulley turn freely? If it needs to be replaced, upgrade to a Saginaw pump.

Is the idle set to the proper RPM?

Code 31 PFE - Pressure Feedback EGR sensor or circuit voltage below minimum. Could it be dumping exhaust gases in at idle???? Run tests/Check the EGR.
