I have a couple questions about wheelbase. It's getting close to being to hot to wheel in AZ, so I'm getting ready to start the next round of mods on my rig. This brought me back to thinking about building an F-toy.
It would be a trail>comp rig. Most of the hard trails here are steep waterfall type stuff. My current rig is 115" wheelbase. I was thinking of taking it down to 110" and try to bring the COG down a bit as well.
What wheelbase are most of you running on your F-toys? How do they do on the steep stuff? Does the standard Hendrix chassis have room for a small rear bench seat?

BTW, my current rig has pretty much everything I would need with the exception of the hendrix chassis.

And no, I aint going to start the "can I build my own" shit again.:flipoff2:

A couple more questions.
I have a rear axle assy out of an 01 runner. The rules say from 79-95. Why? I was going to chop all the link mounts off and weld on spring perches. Don't tell me I bought a boat anchor.

Also I was going to run a 20r head on a 22r block. No can do?

Sorry about the F-toy noob questions......... but I'm sure to have more.

"factory head - for block"

"must be from 79-95"

Looking bad

I understand it's the rules, but now I'm just trying to learn something. Why can't you run the later model axle? It's better somehow?

I'm still curious about the rear axles. This is from the rules.

Rear Axle

Rear axle must be from 1979 - 1995 Toyota Pickup or 4Runner
Any Toyota 8" third member allowed (FJ80, V6 or 4cyl)
Any factory or aftermarket ring & pinion gear sets
Aftermarket/custom axle housings allowed
U-bolt flip allowed
Aftermarket axle shafts allowed
Differential shaving allowed
Trussing and diff armored allowed

Could somone shed a little light on why a newer factory axle assy is not allowed?

It has to have the "8" 3rd member not an "8.4" one. These numbers are used to identify the different 3rds and not excat measurements of them. There are distintive diferences. If your housing has an elocker its an 8" one.

I cant speak for the people who make or enforce the rules, but I would say if it has an
8" 3rd and drum brakes your ok.

Theres a whole big thread about this a couple of pages back, hopefully you can get the info you need from it without bringing the thead back up. That thread is about as much fun as the rules thread:barf: .

Thanks Heywood!
Looks like I should have researcherd axle assemblys before I bought one. Dumb mistake, but I thought they were all 8".:(

sorry to butt in but that is a 8" diff. If ot had been out of a tacoma it would be a 8.4 (or whatever it is) I am only speaking up so this guy wont have to buy another axle.
