: Z71 straight axle pics
4x4man 04-12-2002, 04:35 AM just incase some of yall hasnt seen theseyet,,here they are. i got pics of every step of the buildup,,,,but havent been scanned yet. beleive it or not,,,,it only took a few hours to build. this is the first project i have built that i actualy had everything and not run off to the parts stores for forgotten stuff. i would say it took like 7 or 8 hours from start to finish. it drives real good. it wheels even better.,,,but i dont wheel it much cause i got other rigs id rather dent and scratch up.

damn i love to see those things with a solid axle up front
KAcrawler 04-12-2002, 07:53 AM yeah solid axles just seem like they belong in the front of a truck especially a chevy
Nicely done. Friend of mine recently did a SAS conversion on that body style. That truck absolutely makes me drool.

GloNDark 04-12-2002, 08:36 AM What axle did you use for the front?
What axle is in the rear?
What springs did use front and rear?
I have a 97 that I am dying to do this too. But with a 10 bolt in the rear ( :mad3: ) I am holding out till I can afford 1 ton axles for it front and rear.
LOOKS AWESOME!!!

Well, the RC driverside drop my clue you in that's it's a Ford f250 axle:flipoff2:
Front springs are from the SA chevy's (73-87) and I think he went with 6". The SAS kit (ORU) adds 2.5" by itself.
Rear springs: I don't remember what he used...I think 4" springs and blocks...
I think that he still has the 10 bolt rear :nuke: but he doesn't wheel this one. When we did this conversion to my Roommates truck, we put in a SF 14bolt cuz it bolts right in and all of us were too busy to help modify alot of stuff for him (he's not a fab'r). Now we are in the process of putting a FF14 bolt in with rear disks and converting it to 6 lug.
And then a 203-205 t-case set up
;)

welndmn 04-12-2002, 11:37 AM Sweet thanks man, should make this job easier, the hard part is finding a f-250 44 that is cheap, most seem to be to $$

appriciate that man,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i just wanted to do that to that truck for 3 years now. i dont like IFS. the front axle is out of a 74 ford f100. i ground the axle clean, and welded on spring pads. just be aware that if you use a f150 or f100 axle,,,the radius arm mounts on the axle came in 2 designs. one has a split in it,,and the other dont. mine had the split, and it was easy to remove them,,,the solid mounts would be damn hard to grind off. the easiest way would be to get a 78 or 79 f250 dana 44. just bolt it on,,,,i found one, but the dumbass at the junkyard dropped it and busted the housing. but i did manage to rob the carrier i needed from it. i did it in my moms carport. ORU kit is nice. but i have used it to built my buddies brackets for theirs. their instructions need some work cause it leaves out some detail. i didnt remove any of my factory IFS mounts. (never know if i total the truck and would want to keep my OUR kit) the front is superlift 8 in springs . the rear is skyjacker 6in softrides with a 4in block.(for now) well,,technically,,i still have the 10 bolt. but i have already built a 14bolt with 513s and just need time to get it put in. im leaving in a few minutes to go work on a lift for my friends truck. i have 456 gears front and rear now. the 10 bolt has held up(thank god). but i should get the 14 bolt put in soon.i go and play in the mud everyonce in awhile. and yes,,,,,it is a chick magnet. even though i love my girlfriend very much,,,,it still is cool to have a truck that will pick up any chick that i see. scout dude gave me alot of good tips on building this truck. a friend just got to town last night talking shit about his yota,,,,he paid like 8 grand for a SAS and 44 boggers with those stone crusher rims with fake beadocks. the rims are like 300 each,,,,fawk that. mine were like 120 each. he was downing my truck saying it was small,,,,well,,,i have some 2.5 ton rockwells. i might just put them under my Z71 and get some big ass terra tires and just go see whose truck is smaller. hehehe,,,,but at least i do wheel mine on occasion. he just rides up and down the road. ill get yall some more pics soon,,,
