depends on how much lift you have, if you lift it to the point you get bad vibes, yes, you are going to want to cut and turn it

oop's I should have been clearer...my bad

This is what I am doing toyota axles, YJ springs, 36's, on to my samurai. I will be taking off the frenders in the front and chopping the rear. Do you guys think this can be done with the stock YJ springs? and do you think the pinon will need to be moved?

Looking for a little help no flaming please.

Hey Flexysammynewbie:flipoff2: :D

Toyota pickups run the shackle on the trailing end of the front springs (aka shackle-reverse). The front housing is set up to be run that way - if you put it in a vehicle with the shackles on the front, the caster will be way off & you will get the dreaded DEATH WOBBLE You can shim it to get it back to acceptable caster, but then you will have a not-so-good pinion angle, since the wheelbase is so much shorter with a Samurai vs. a Toyota.

So to answer your question, I do not know of anyone who has cut & roatated the knuckles on their Toy front axle under a Samurai, but it would be a good idea.

I am going to do mine probably this fall when I change my front suspension & shave the housing.

Thanks for the welcome Oilburner......

Do you know of anyone that makes a shackel revers for YJ springs on a samurai? I can make them my self but am on a time restriction.....

Oh yea :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Use a large tubing cutter, if you can find one. Much easier than all than grinding.

Toyota axles have a similar problem to Scout D44s. Scout's come from the factory with ZERO caster - which is part of the reason they're like driving a 2.5-ton truck. Toyota trucks were factory spec'd at somewhere around 1.5-2.5 degrees of caster. (Caster = tilt of the knuckles. Positive caster = knuckles rotated toward back of truck)

Generally, people have had good luck on Toy's running around 5-7 degrees of positive caster to prevent wander with larger tires. Any more than that and you'll get death wobble (Like me!)... But rotating the whole housing back to change the caster angle means that the pinion is rotated into the ground about 5 degrees... and Toy axles have a pretty low pinion angle to START with. There's no way you could run a CV-driveshaft with this setup.

Anyway, here's a couple links for you:

* http://woody.ih8mud.com/soa.html (SOA on an FJ40)

And a good thread on the subject in the Toy section:

Cutting and turning your knuckles isn't a big deal, just time consuming and you better be damn perfect with your angles and welds.

On another note; search grasshopper and the answers will find you... :flipoff2:

Trail Tough's is not shackle reversal; it's a missing link, with the link up front.

Canyon States is not making it any more; basically, out of business.

The only shackle reversal kit I know of it from Dave at Asian Autoparts of Arizona (click here here (http://www.asianautopartsofaz.com/suzuki/index.html)- they are modifiying one of their kits for YJ's + Toy axles - I've got one on order, but I've been waiting three weeks now, and probably going to have to call them about it again.. (yes, I can be a pest. I want this kit!)
