Looking at some options, way in advance.

What we've got is an 85 truck, with functioning EFI currently. Stock long block, have header, and will be doing cam no matter.

So options are:
1. rip apart stock harness, and wire in switches, etc as needed.

2. Buy plug-n-play harness from http://www.offroadsolutions.com Theyve got a harness to plug into the factory engine harness, that we can work with easily to wire in ignition switch, starter, even includes a check engine light. Not bad at all for ~450.

3. Pony up some bucks, and drop ~1400 at http://www.lcengineering.com for a SDS distributorless system. Toss a couple more, ~300 and get new Bosch injectors. Little tuning tool, etc, and hit ~2k all done.

Option one stinks for time and ease by a long shot. Options 2 and 3 are both pretty good. Though 3 sounds like we'd hit ~150 horse if we freshen up the motor a bit.

I've been running a SDS kit(fuel managment only) for over a year now, no problems, easy to tune, and very little wiring...

Now I have to get more than minimal wiring and easy to tune out of this. I would want more POWER. Mike at ORS has been a good friend for many years, and happens to be trained through Toyota's T-ten program, AND specialized in fuel injection. So tuning, thats not even an issue. I think he could even put a air density meter in place of the AFM if I dropped of a rig and gave him a bug in his ear about it.

So how about it, did you get a sizable increase in power output from the SDS alone?

Also, in COLD weather conditions. I have every intention of tossing on Carhart's, ski goggles, and going snow wheeling when its 10 degrees out. How well does the SDS do under cold start, run hard, cool for lunch, run hard again, cool for waiting on extracting a rig, etc?

Increase in power, not to sure about that, I went from a carb directly to SDS. I do notice my rig has more power compared to other simirlly setup rigs with stock EFI.

As for cold weather, I can't help you there. I think we talked about our cold weather(70 is the coldest it gets here) here on Guam, when I ordered my rear diamond housing...

I would go SDS without the crank trigger ignition. So far I'm not impressed with the durability of the crank trigger system. Everyone that I've talked to that has had a failure, had problems with the ignition part.
After going snow wheeling, it took us a month to get my brothers running again. We had to send in the ECM and the computer board under the coil pack to get repaired due to water damage. It took out a coil and screwed up the reostat that controls the rich/lean setting.

They say that it is a 15 horse power gain over running a distributor but you would have to proove that to me. Regardless, I'm not impressed in the durability.

Glad I went with SDS fuel only, I run a carb dis. with a MSD for ignition...

I agree, propane is totally under rated.

'pane would be cool, and Cory is a good guy, with plenty of info. However, where I live, no propane for sale 'til you drive an hour. And since Im already siting on a complete EFI system, I dont think it would make sense. Besides if I run outta gas on the lakebed, I can just steal some from my bro's stash!
