hey there everyone. i got an awesome deal on a 74 ford f-250 4x4 camper special (400$ trucks being used for parts) and im just trying to figure out which axles it has. i originally thought it had 60s (just took a glance). i got her home sprayed the mud and dirt off the front cover with the pressure washer so i could pull it and take a look inside and glanced at the bottom left corner of the front pumpkin , where dana has some of their model numbers casted and it has 80F there, and thats the only number i can find on the housing. from looking at it i can tell you its low pinion, leafsprung, kingpin style, with closed knuckles, drum brakes, and an 8 bolt lug pattern. to me it just doesnt look like a 60 . the rear is FF ,with 8 lug pattern, large drums. doesnt really look like a 60 either but that could be just because its all dirty or because its really late, who knows. anyways the drivetrain it has is an inline 6 , with a 4 speed std, to an np205. anyways if any of you ford gurus feel like helpin a jeeper out it be much appreciated. thanks a bunch.

Factory would be a closed-knuckle D44, and D60 rear... unless its a crewcab.

ive never heard of a closed knuckle 44 ??:( ?? either way ill post pics when the cameras good and charged again
edit: yes it looks to be the 44 in the front, ive never seen one with kingpins though hmmm. anyone run these axles? how are they and anyone have an idea what there worth?
you probalby missread that '80f'. is would be either 44f or 60f. being a camper special it may have the early closed knuckle Dana 60. Drum brakes and not very strong.
As for never seeing a closed knuckle D-44. look under every f-250 from 1959-1975. cant miss them unless swaped out.
Just saw the edit. is it the big hub or small hub d44. small hub uses same old lockouts as any 1/2 ton truck. Big hubs are external and held on by 6 bolts.
Worth......not too much.

Hello Ford Gurus;
I have a 1993 F-350 Crewcab, i´m planning on doing some modifications to my axles. I know that the front one is a Dana 60, no brainer. However, the back diff i´m not sure. At 4WP they told me it was a Sterling 12 bolt and at another store they said it was a Dana 70.
Maybe they might be the same, but i sure would appreciate if somebody could clear this matter up for me.Those guys suer as hell help get me more confused.

i picked up a 5 lug 44 with open knuckles drum brakes and kingpins. but the kuckles were way different than you would expect a open to be. it was from a 69' f-100

perhaps you shoud start your own thread, but its probably a 10.25 sterling. but you should post pics (in your own thread) so we can be sure. Dana 70's look like this: http://coloradok5.com/techpics/dana70.jpg
while sterlings look like this: http://coloradok5.com/techpics/ford1025in.jpg

Your back!
Ok, lets get me some pictures to fill out this page -> http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/Dana44_3.htm
jeepxj91, I've pics for a HD Dana 44 and a 74-75 Dana 60, so you should be able to tell. The key is the front pumpkin, notice the difference between these years. However post the BOM if you can.

wow, amazingly enough your webpage is where i found out about the axle i had. the axle is currently 300 miles away from me at my dads house, but perhaps when i go home in a few weeks i can take some pictures of it. i was never going to run it anyways, i bought the truck for the 5 lug 60 in the back.

yup it looks almost identical to the 1974-1975.5 Dana 60 low pinion closed kingpin crewcab. has that same steering, that little bracket ubolted to the long tube right beside the pumpkin, same locking hubs, and brakes. the truck itself is still at the owners house. hes pulling the motor and a couple other things we agreed he could have and when hes done im picking it up. engine was leaking alot so it has alot of dried oily muddy dirt on the axle tubes. if the BOM and date are in the same place as the diagram shown at the top, ill head over tomorow with some brake kleen and try to get you guys some numbers. if this is the axle? how hard of a swap is it to convert to disc brakes? any possibility of running a 15 inch rim on it after the swap? thanks to all who have replied. ill get the numbers asap
