: dismounting 16.5's hard?

I need to dismount the new 44's I got from the rims so I can sell the rims. I can only find one tire shop that will touch them and they want $30 a tire!!!!

I dismounted my old 39's off the beadlocks in about an hour. But I only had to pull the rim lip thru one side of the tire because of the beadlock.

Anyone done it on 16.5's? Is it doable or am I :smokin: the good stuff?

pop the bead with a highlift and then grab some big as crow bars and start prying!!

There's no bead to pop. They are 16.5's. But getting the first rim lip through the tire worries me since I can't angle it like the second one can be.

I've mounted/dismounted 15s myself, but never 16.5s. From what I hear though, 16.5s are supposed to be a lot easier. FWIW

No problem. Pull the valve cores, step on one side to push the tire bead down to the relieved portion in the rim, insert bar opposite your foot, and pull. Move over 8" and use the second bar. I've done a lot of these. No different than any other tire job, except when you go to put air back in; since there's no safety bead, you've got to have a lot of air volume to blow the tire out to seal against the rim. Wider tires on narrower rims help this situation.

My old 16.5 38's...pull the valve stem core, when the air finished comin out, if you STEPPED on them they cam off  Its cake Matt

I can't go within 100 yards of a highschool. KIDDING :D

That's an idea. I will try the crowbars first and then the school.

damn dude at $30 a tire, you should go buy the harbor freight tire changer and swap them out. Buddy of mine bought one, and we figure we have changed well over 50 tires with no problems so far. Have don't 16.5's but like Keith said if you step on them with no air in em, them come loose. And the tire changer makes pull the tire bead over the rim MUCH easier. :D:D

I'm not really sure why but the bead on these 16.5's was THICK and hella tough. I got the tire changer and bent the tool trying to get one off.  I tried the 2 large crowbars and finally gave up. I called around again and this time told them all I needed was a shop with hand tools that the tires did not need to be broken off the bead. I guess that is why the last time they said they could not do it. Jensen tire dismounted them for $8 each. :D
