Who has wheeled in Farminton? Is there anywhere to stay around there? Are there books on the trails? Looking to go there early summer and need to know what to expect:smokin:

plenty of rooms to stay in or places to camp (if ya camp bring a gun) lol

don't know about books but have wheeled various obstacles in chockcherry..

the rock is weird there..kinda like Moabs slickrock and CO granite mixed..

where the hell is parker?

BTW the best western in farmington is decent rooms and cheap!
there are a couple members on this board that live there, maybe one of them will come on and ask ya to go wheelin with em..

Parker is a Southeast suburb of Denver. It is sandwiched between Aurora and Highlands Ranch on the south end. Thanks for the info. Is the gun for animals or people??

I'm an hour north of Farmington. Overall it's a dirty and relatively ugly place, but the wheeling is good. I've never seen books on trails, and honestly I don't think you could write one. Talk about braiding! Trails go everywhere, there's bypasses for everything. There's plenty of places to stay. I wouldn't camp, or if I did I'd bring a gun as suggested. It'd be best to go w/a local who knows the area. Personally I like the Rock Garden in Aztec more than Choke Cherry, that's just me. You do a LOT more scrambling in Farmington than you normally would in Moab, axle wrap is definitely a no-no I'd say. Of course I'm stereotyping, each location has varied terrain to some extent. Here's the start of the Cobra trail, this Bronco had a front locker only (D44 SAS) and it seemed to cause a large degree of front wheel-hop

That pretty well sums up what I thought of Farmington when I lived in Durango. It was a great place to wheel in the winter when I got tired of snow, especially since the wheeling areas hadn't been "discovered" yet other than by locals and mountain bikers. Butch if you don't mind the hour drive stay in Durango and drive down to Aztec. There are a lot more places to stay and good restaraunts in Durango.

Go and camp! Sheez! You guy's make Farmington sound like the blood's and crip's are warring around every piece of slick-rock! Gun in Denver? YES! Gun in Farmington? Naw...

There are dozens of hotels ($29 on up) within' 15 mins of the trail-heads...Good food, drink etc. Try and hook up with Phil How (sp?)...He's the craziest bastard out there...Or Harold Off...Both are nucking futs...

The area is decomposed sandstone...So no offense...It's nothing like Moab Slick-rock and Colorado granite...It can be slippery (sandy) shit...Bring a broom for the off-camber steep ledges...And get used to bumping (almost) every steep ledge.

I agree it's a great place to wheel and I have several friends there. I wouldn't mind living there actually. Plenty of places to hang your hat.

I'd definitely hook up with some locals for the wheeling. And it is not anything like Moab slickrock IMO. The scaredest I've been has been on the Terminator trail in Farmington when the sandstone started breaking up under my tires on the side of a cliff. They have some crazy shiat there.

RockRover is right - Phil is a crazy SOB :D

I don't understand the dirty comment, or the "bring your gun" comment. I think Farmington is a nice, quiet high desert town with a lot of cool people, and a few drunk indians. :D Seriously, if you don't feel safe in Farmington, you don't get out much.

Anyhow, I don't know the names of any trails there, but I have been in a few competitions out there and I love it. Talk about getting-it-ability.... Can't wait to go back at the end of this month! There are hotels everywhere. And the wheelin' is only miles from town, and you can drive your rig on the roadway - the cops don't care.

Look me up when you come down. We can take you out. You only need a gun for the dread lock, no shower takin, hippy, Durango people. Farmington has some of the best climbing around. It can be real extreme or it can be mild. It's all up to you. We can take you to our new trail Gladiator. It's awsome and hard. Go to my web site and get my phone # for my shop. www.brownsfabrication.com Don't listen to the trash talker he dosn't know what he is talking about. You don't have 4 comp's in one year in the same town if the wheelin isn't good. Or the people aren't freindly.

Farmington is a great place to wheel. Give Harold Off a call and hook up with him and Chip Monk for one helluva time! I was there a couple of years ago and wheeled with these guys and had a blast on RJ's trail, Intimidator and the Waterfall trail all in Choke Cherry Canyon.
I have to agree though the amount of trash just outside of town on some of the easier places to access was in abundance. I know this is a problem and Harold and Chip did say there are annual cleanups. Hope it is cleaner now.
Plan on getting back sometime.

Well once I can get everybody rounded up and headed that way I will attempt to hook up with some of you locals to find the good wheeling. Right now I have to reattach my ram since I ripped the mount off this weekend.
