I just started the shackle reversal today and I need a measurement from someone that has a shackle reversal with stock flat springs...could you measure from the center of the spring eye to center of other spring eye...I'm afraid the angle of the shackle will be wrong unless I can compress the springs thus the need for the measurement...pics of the angle of your shackle would help too....right now I have the spring mount welded in place in the front with the spring on.....I know I need to put the hole thru the frame in front of the rear spring eye...I just don't know how much...thanks

FWIW the center of the hole thru frame is very close to the old rivet hole. such that there is full meat on the centering bit in the hole saw and the old rivet hole is between the center bit and outside edge of hole saw. IIRC the center for new hole is 1/4 " below and 1/4 " behind old rivet hole.

I extended the front of my frame 2 1/2 inches so the old rivet hole will not work for me....

I have done a shackle reversal. the perches are right on the frame without a drop bracket, stock flat springs, soa, and the shackle hanger is under frame with a 4" hole to hole shackle. drives like a dream, and wheels even better. I tack weld the shackle hangers and then drop the weight on, and see how it looks. my measurements probably wouldn't work for ya though, it is about 4" forward of stock.

mine is 42" front spring hanger eye to rear shackle hanger eye. Perfect in my opinion. I would not go too much further out, though you can, but your shackle will get more a more vertical the further you go out, until its sitting the wrong way.
good luck-

I use the OEM measurement .......once the front is set, using this I drill the hole for the shackle..........I always have a stocker close to use so I don't record it.

when i dustin, mark, dan and I did it, we used a magnetic drill press for the sr after using a hand drill to do a 3" hole thru the cross member for the ps. maybe overkill, but i cant drill a straight hole to save my life. i think it was like $80 or so to rent for the day, or like $40 for 4 hours.

so you are saying that the shackle should have an angle to it? The the hanger should be in front of the spring eye? Is it like the pic below? Thanks for the pic Jack...

just like in the pic below. An advantage you have of going 42 inches or less (41", 40", etc..) is you will get a longer shackle which will allow for more droop. But, your front suspension will be more mushy with more angle, which can be good to a point. There is a balance.
cheers-
Dustin
