There are 2 stock M10x1.25 nutsert that I think were used for the rear heater and I may use those to mount my 3 gal tank. Question is that my traction bar sits only3 inches below what would be the tank if mounted there. If mounted under the truck in this position will that traction bar make contact with the tank when the rear susp is fully compressed?? I'd like to keep the rear area open for an aux fuel tank but I don't want to blow up a charged tank either.

Thanks for your input. Dan

Goodmorning. The traction bar should not move up at the end by the heater nutsertz. you are talking of putting it just behind tcase , cross ways , yes ?
do it . IMO air tanks are worthless. take forevr to fill and don't have capacity to run shit. Get a powertank 15 lb. CO2 and be done with it. leave your air pump on board for a back up . I put fittings on my CO2 so if it ever goes empty on me I can hook the airpump to it and use as a tank for emerg. purposes.

If you remember your trigonometry, you can calculate how much your traction bar will move at full compression. Otherwise, you can just mount it and find out.

If you have a low volume compressor, running a tank is the only way that you can get enough volume of air to reliably seat a tire bead with air. You can also seat beads with a little starting fluid or gasoline and a match if need be, so a tank isn't absolutely necessary.

The tank that would fit there would shoot its load before it even got close to seating a bead.

Thanks. I think, I'll put it there. Its an airbrake tank off a peterbuilt, looks to be around 3-4 gallons. I can charge it to 125psi off my York (10cfm). I know power tanks are cool, and I'll likely get one for the 80 as I don't want to fuss with OBA on a 1fz.

Why do the mod? Well, from those that I have seen they work well and its one more thing to put in my sig:grinpimp: Hardest part was making a custom bracket that looks descent. Got that done last night. Now its time to plumb it.

I made my 2x4 box front bumper into an air tank, and theres no way that stubby thing has half the volume of an air brake tank. I have not yet met a bead I couldn't reseat using the bumper tank and my York. You shouldn't have any problems at all. As far as the geometry, if the tank is mounted near where the traction bar mounts to the frame, the T-bar should move very little at that point.
