I am going to build a tow rig/ DD in the fall, it will be a 2wd 82 chevy 3/4 ton. Going to have a 14 bolt FF, with either 3.73's or 4.10's, sm465 and a 350, My question is, is there anything I should do to the motor to give it a lil extra pep to help tow, or would i be ok with a bone stock 350?? I will mostly be towing a zuk on full width axles, but will eventually step up to possibly k5 sized rig.

Anything you can do to help the motor will be worth it.

But I would be more worried about making sure the sway bar and shocks are good.

The 73 GMC with a 454/4 speed I tow with (occasionally) down right sucks, with no sway bars, 15 year old shocks, and a cab over. Plus, it wont go faster than 45 up hills.

but thats just me, because after you tow with a ctd or psd, you wonder how you got to the trail before.

I'd convert the motor to TBI. I have a '90 3/4 ton with a tbi 350, sm465, 4x4 and 3.42's and don't mind it. I don't have a problem towing well over 70 on flat ground and usually can do the speed limits up hills if i speed up at the bottm and keep my foot in it. I get about 15mpg empty and 10 towing, it's no psd or cummins but it is paid for and i can get parts any where for it.
