On my 69 FJ40, I have the round hump in the center of the tub for the t-case... the tub is getting in the way of the drivetrain, so I plan on cutting the center hump out and making a new piece to cover it. Has anyone ever done this?

Why not just unbolt the old one?

I did already, but I am talking about the part that fits between the old cover, and the rear step up. That small part between the 2 seats.

I did it on mine. No pics here, I could try and get some tonight. I cut the whole section out between the end of the tranny hump and the step up to the rear area. All I did was fab up a piece out of some sheet metal and bend, tweak weld it back in. Worked out great, and have a completely flat belly.

I cut mine like you are describing, but never made another cover. It is easy to tighten the DS bolts now ;)

Cut mine and lowered it abit to fit the underseat tank. I say just cut it and make a roll seam in the new piece and shape to fit.
Not hard..
