: Clutch Cancel Disconnect

Anyone disabled their clutch-cancel in their Sammi? I did this mod in my migo and love it, and would like to do the same thing in my sammi.

Also, how do you guys feel about the strength of the stock starter in the sammi. How would it stand up to this kind of abuse?

Lastly, assuming its a good idea, anyone know how to do it?

Kevin

Pull the 2 pin connector under the dash and jump the wires together. For a more permenant solution run the wires to a toggle switch. Some say that the clutch switch also activates a switch in the ECU and tells the carb to run rich.

I just did it, went in for a smog and it was not running rich, HC's were high though.207 max 150 so it's carb adjust, spark plugs wire dist cap rotor, change oil, retard timing.

The ECU switch comes off your tranny, tells it that the truck is in 5th, opens secondaries sooner. If you put a switch on this one, you get a little more power jumped, a little more economy open... Mike
PS, if you jump it and your reverse lights goes on, you got the other switch off the tranny:rolleyes:

Gozuki you put a toggle switch to trigger the 5th gear switch on the tranny?

Yes. My sidekick tranny didn't have the 5th gear switch, so I made it a manual switch. It basically is a Power/Economy switch that you see in other vehicles. BTW, mine is always on, and with 35s and D44/5.38s I still get almost 20 MPG....

Do you know if this makes a difference with the 16v motor?

It should from what gozuki just said, his tranny and your motor come together fty it, your computer should adjust:rolleyes:

Does that actually make a noticeable difference? I have the 1.6L 8v, with a 1.3L intake on it for now  , so a little more fuel couldn't hurt. How exactly did you do this, i've heard about people doing this before, but they just set the carb up to open the 2nd port at 1/2 throttle. I think having a switch would be better.
Please teach me LOL :D

-that was the second thing i did, about 3 days after buying my brand new '91 Sammy. (the first was yanking out the stupid seatbelt warning buzzer wires :rasta: )

-no one else has replied about the starter ?
can i take this question to mean using your starter to crank the wheels? i don't know... the starter is not exactly praised for it's "robustness" to begin with, and i wouldn't want to risk damaging my flywheel teeth either....
is there a ever a situation where this becomes REALLY necessary?

I have used the stock starter and the kick starter to move the vehicle over a rock and start it at the same time.

I do it all the time in my other low geared trucks, keeps u from rolling back when u push in the clutch;) easier if u lazzzzzy like me, + I can:D sometimes u r right on top of an object[rock] and don't want to slip back or off it and your motor dies, just use the starter, I see it done all the time with low geared t-cases.I don't know if I would trust the sammie starter though, I did it with the toy starters, but they are great gear ruduction type, and my 4.3L gm starter works great too.

i think i'll have to agree with you there.... (or at least where i'm from, they're so covered in wet moss/trees/snow/mud that even just finding them under all that goo is tough.)
of course that's just in my general vicinity*, i can't speak for others.

*my general vicinity is about the size of oh, say.....CALIFORNIA:flipoff2:

My purpose for asking about the starter is because of my experience using it as a "crawler gear" in my Amigo. Tall gears, tall tires and plenty of HP to the ground meant that often on steeps or precarious positions, I would spin a tire and that was no fun. Sometimes the best way to get out of those was actually to shut the engine off, then crank the starter to climb out. Very effective when used properly.

With luck, this wont be an issue in the Sammi (lower gears, less HP, and 4:1 T-case in the plans), but I wanted to know the viability of it in any case.

Kevin
Mods starting soon, if I can ever get this pile of parts collected. :rasta:

yeah I've been around guys like you on the trail, ran the 'con in 99 and there was some dumbass with his "crawler gears" in the back of his 89 toy PU dude had like 5 starters with him in the bed, only he wouldnt wait untill he was in a precarious spot, no he had a spark disable switch, so he would come to a obstacle, kill the motor and Crank up his "crawler gears" and starter all the way up it, very annoying, but effective... and cheap.. come to think of it I am coming to respect him more and more.. nah!!!!!!!:D

I would limit use of the sammy starter in gear... The kick/tracker starter is a gear reduction starter that has proven to be a tough SOB... As for the 5th gear switch, either jumper it, or throw a switch in there...

LOL, never done it that way. sounds a bit like overkill. Nope, for me, it was try the obs, and if the engine HAPPENED to die, and the situation was appropriate, starter crawl over.

I couldnt imagine just shutting it off for everything. Talk about hard on the equipment.

But, also like I said, hopefully this will be a null issue with the lower gears available to me now.
