how difficult is this task for a novice mechanic? how much this cost if i just took it to a shop? thanks

Difficulty... Most of the bolts come out counter-clockwise.

Cost? 8 hours labor and about $500 in parts, $400 in machine work, maybe less if you can get the parts and machine work for less.

DO NOT re-use the old head bolts. The rear-most head bolts are a bitch to get out, bash the socket onto them, otherwise, you'll be pulling the engine to get the bolts out.

go for it its the best way to learn go ahead make a few misstacks but just ask here and every one will be more than happy to flame you,,, and then help you out.I am going to go a seek shelter now :evil: :evil:

If these Rover head bolts clamp so poorly, why aren't we using studs on re-assembly?
