: 33's or 35's
jims4x4 04-13-2002, 04:45 AM Right now I have a yj conversion with missing links front and rear, the truck had a 3"body lift on it when I bought it.Since the bumpers were welded i decided to leave the body lift alone now,but 33's looked too small and the body was also too high.so I slapped a set of 35x15.5x15 Tsl's I had on her and I like it pretty much but when I really twist her up the thing will not stay in lo range due to drivetrain flex causeing the shifter to hit the body(thats the only thing I can figure).I was thinking about doing away with the body lift and getting it back down to 33's.But If I decide to keep the 35's and still take the bodylift out how do most people clear 35's?I have heard of some guys using the OME yj lift springs?somebody throw me a bone here.
I like the clearance of the 35's but hell a lot of you guys are doing it with 33's,plus I guess my gearing will be lower with 5.29's and the 4.16 t-case.any advice will be appreciated...newbie signing off

Lose the body lift, keep the springs you have.
Sawzall the fenders to make the 35s fit. Maybe move the front and rear axles an inch closer to the ends of the truck if you need to.
I'm not joking, this is the way to go.
the t-case won't stay in gear for the reason you say, don't be surprised if after you take the body lift off it still does it. Probably have bent mounts for the t-case (very common problem/symptom).

gunracer1 04-13-2002, 10:55 AM i would stay with a the 33s if you are still in the 80 inch wheel base range. it might be alright in florida but will suck on the big climbs/ledges, you will be seeing the sky all the time. and pull out the body lift no matter what tires you run. keep it low for stability. mike
Bill4rest 04-13-2002, 01:04 PM lose the Body lift
Keep the 35's:D :D
jims4x4 04-13-2002, 01:44 PM ok the body lift is taking a flying f---,so now other than cut my body off what kinda springs do i need to make up for the loss of the body lift.I wanna keep the 35's,33's do me no good in the mudd or over fallen trees here in florida

That's the point. No change to the springs. You make room for the tires with the sawzall...

rockzooki 04-13-2002, 09:23 PM lose the b-lift and cut cut cut!:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
somone21 04-14-2002, 11:08 AM take out the body lift, then take off your tj flares and move them up on the body to where you like it, mark the body with a pen and cut, then put the flares back on, it looks super sick:beer:
Gozuki 04-14-2002, 12:26 PM More details:confused: . Do you have it SPOA? What kind of YJ conversion? My 35s fit great AFTER engineering the whole suspension around them. My front is moved forward 1.5", rear .5". Stock YJs SPOA, with my own spring mounts, axle pads, shackles and missing links....
Gozuki 04-14-2002, 12:27 PM And, BTW, lose the body lift and reinforce your tcase mounts, that will take care of your shifter problem...
grimbo 04-14-2002, 03:44 PM I am running 34" Swampers with a 2" body lift and 2 1/2" old man emu lift SPUA using rears allround. I have trimmed (hacked) the front fenders and they fit no worries, slight contact in the front at full stuff. So lose the body lift and cut away.
jims4x4 04-14-2002, 07:39 PM I am using the trail tough yj conversion with missing links front and rear, stock yjs 5leaf in the front 4 in the rear.spoa with toyota axles, mighty kong t-case mount so I don't think I am lacking there.I was thinking opf using the OME springs and taking the body lift out.By the way I get into the body right now with the body lift and I have already trimmed and bashed the fender wells,I must just have a damn flexy set of yj's.Any way I was measuring away the other day and my track width is 76" and my wheel base is about 82",My stock sami I use for daily driver has a track width of 56" so I am a great deal wider than a stock sami.Keep the advice coming though,I am new to this sami thing,I have been wheelin a pretty bad ass toyota for years and decided I was ready for a change.so I stripped it sold it and started on my first samurai. It has been a lot of fun so far.seems like with as many post as some of you guyshave on here when do you have time to ride?just curious....ready for my ceremonial stoning outside the village now
jims4x4 04-14-2002, 07:42 PM by the waY grimbo how do you like the OME's,I was thinking about getting the 4.5 OME's for a yj and going back to SPUA and keep running the 35's then removing the body lift, help with the axle twist also

I really don't understand your obsession with lift springs. Cut the damn fender openings!
SPUA? What are you? Some kind of weak kneed wanker? Next you'll be complaining about locker handling traits on-road.
fawkin' newbies. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
(sorry, it's late and that's all of the ceremony I have in me).

(who spent the day driving around the country side looking at rusted out hulks of LWB Samurais and LJ-80s - wheeling would have been better)

i love them. They are nice and flexy and haven't sagged yet and I've had them for 5 years when I bought them 2nd hand and they're Australian
jims4x4 04-14-2002, 08:11 PM yeah I was talking to a fellow wheeler online and he told me he used the SPOA and was able to yank out the body lift and double his wheel travel over stock yjs, sounds better than hacking my 3000 dollar truck up to fit a set of 100 springs.
