Does it matter 2wd or 4wd NP435 swap in an Early Bronco? And what is the best year and version to look for? And I will Probably be using the dana 20 for now.

Well besides that thread..... as far as I know Ford Np435 all are pretty much the same except the 4x2 versions have just a yoke on the back of the tranny the 4x4 versions have a housing that runs back to the Tcase.... you need an adapter which is in essence a new houseing in order to run your D20.... you shouldn't pay even $200 for that Tranny.

The 435/205 combo is pretty common from late 70's to early 80's ford pickups and bronco's. It's probably found in a lot more years than that, but I know those years for sure. The NP435 was found in a lot of years probably from late 60s up into late 80's. Very easy to find. They are easily identified by the aluminum top cover. Awesome trannys

You realize the 205 only has a 1.99 low range right? Anyway, the NP435's that come mated to the 205 have a 31 spline output shaft. The 435's from 2wd, or mated to a dana 21 t-case have a 28 spline output shaft. If you wanted to run a dana 20, you would want the 28 spline tranny.

If you wanted to run a 205 behind a 28 spline tranny, you would have to swap output shafts, everything else should be the same. The 28 spline 2wd tranny's are very common and can easily be found for $100.

Also keep in mind you'll need an expensive adapter to bolt up a dana 20. I'm not sure where an atlas fits into all this. I bet they make it for either output shaft.

My 435 came from a 1980 2wd f-150 6cyl. It had the cast bellhousing. I used a 164 tooth flywheel with 11" clutch. I'd recommend using the larger flywheel. I had to fab a bracket for a hydraulic slave.

The bolt patterns on ford trannys are pretty common, but I don't know how interchangable they are. Some of the mid 80's pickups had an aluminum bellhousing with a factory slave. I couldn't find one, but they're out there.

Hey can I play??? You're both newbies! However 9 volt is the newest newbie :flipoff2:

9 volt = Dec 2001

alx = Dec 2000

Ha ha ha ha haha fawkin newbies......:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Honestly I could give a shit if someone is a newbie, and you both are OK in my book... :rasta: :nuke:

As far as searching goes....it can be a real pain in the ass. I don't mind repeat posts, unless it's straight up stupid, then I just don't read them. Often different people reply, and the threads go entirely different directions. Then I learn even more....

I think alx was pretty damn nice to point to the old thread.

I believe you are looking for the 2wd version with the square bolt pattern. There is one on Ebay right now for a good price (or at least it was before this thread and :flipoff2: it's not mine!).

Go to http://www.classicbroncos.com and then to links, etc. There are a lot of good sites there to view.

On a side note, I just did the conversion on mine and it rocks!

Peace out newbies! :flipoff2: :beer:

i made my own adaptor to mate the 435 to the d20. it was actually very easy to do and only costs a little for the aluminum. check it out here. http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2002/np435d20/
